Prayut wants Thais to prepare for the worst, asks for trust in his leadership

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha told the Thai people on Wednesday to expect the worst in the next several weeks or months as the coronavirus continues to ravage the country and as more stringent measures being imposed are going to affect their daily lives.

He urged all Thai people to cooperate fully with the government, to act responsibly and to comply strictly with preventive directives, which are necessary for their protection, even though they may feel their freedom is being eroded.

In his address to the nation this afternoon, following the declaration of a nationwide state of emergency yesterday, the prime minister stressed that more stringent measures are necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to reduce the socio-economic impacts from the contagion.

He said that from now on he will be in charge of the fight against the contagion, from prevention and treatment to rehabilitation, and will report directly to the people on the progress of the government’s efforts.

“Several weeks or months from now may be the worst time for us, the most difficult time for Thailand. It will be an unprecedented and challenging time for us. We must accept that Thailand is now at a turning point in the fight against COVID-19 and the situation may worsen considerably. It will affect our health, our income and our ways of life,” said the prime minister.

"and he urged everyone to have faith in his leadership."   Why should anyone have faith in his leadership ? His main task is, and always has been, to take care of the elite in the count

  • I don't worry at all because Prayuth has the situation 100% under control.

He'd stopped all foreigners from entering, so the virus will soon disappear. Clown.

"and he urged everyone to have faith in his leadership."

Why should anyone have faith in his leadership ?

His main task is, and always has been, to take care of the elite in the country.

He cares very little about normal members of Thai society, and is using this pandemic to garner support.

Hmmm .. This is a big one with the globe treading into uncertainty for the next few mths but no mention in this of who he is taking guidance from .. Some other leaders are making big of the fact they are following medical and scientific advice to the letter ..

His reputation could get tarnished a bit if he doesn't get scientific with it and to date there does appear to be something left to be desired in the response with the debatable numbers of those said to be infected and the mortality rate ( and that did take some believing until 2 or 3 days ago ) .. Yet it is only the last 2 weeks maybe it is dawning what is happening .. Personally I'd be a bit crafty , stand aside just before the traincrash and let the minions cop for the fallout shouting to anyone willing to listen " there I told you so but you wouldn't listen  " ..

Thailand will be seen as a hotspot and travel bans will be imposed by other countries, effectively doing what Prayut should have done some time ago. The unfortunate thing his inability to make a decision without permission from those higher up has, and will continue to, cost Thailand dearly in both cash and credibility.

Will sure be interesting to see just how repressive the authorities become during the lockdown.

The fallout from this thing will be unprecedented. A whole nation to piece back together and revive with modern, forward looking thinking.

The next generation know what's up. And any repression shown during the lockdown won't be forgiven down the line.

Now that he has everything under his control, it will be interesting to see if hospitals serving the poor get fair allocations of essential equipment such as ventilators, or whether some items mysteriously disappear from the system so that they are available for more "important" people that need them. He might think his taking charge will garner support, but when it fails (as it surely will) he will need to order another display of guns and tanks to stay in power.

Until recently there was a viable alternative, but they were abolished!

You are 100% correct in saying that (sadly) he is all we have. History is a great judge, but my concern is for the tens / hundreds of thousands of people who may die in the meantime because of his arrogance and ineptitude. He may(?) be a man, but IMHO is certainly not THE man.

If it´s going to be good or bad, I do not have a clue about. Anyway, there has been 2 articles with pictures about Prayut and the best and most knowledgeable doctors in Thailand. I guess that at least will give you answer where he takes his advice from. However, nobody knows if he likes them and will heed to them.

YES! That´s the really scary part.

This is the same man who recently said that everything is under control.

  • Popular Post

He just oozes the trust factor-not.

Your people hid the truth for weeks and now the country has to suffer the consequences.

And they will be around for a very long time.
