Monday I extended my girlfriend's tourist visa (Romanian Passport) in Chiang Mai, then extended my own tourist visa on Tuesday (USA Passport).

My own extension was smooth as this was a normal 30 day tourist extension.

For my girlfriend, she obtained a letter from her embassy via email but received only 20 days.  The immigration officer said they needed an original letter or her visa would be canceled.  Problem is we are in Chiang Mai, her embassy is in Bangkok, and they cannot send mail from the embassy.  They suggested instead contacting a courier service to pick up the letter.

This has me a bit concerned about my own situation, as the U.S. Consulate in Chiang Mai said they do not offer original letters for visa extension either for pickup or by mail.  Has anyone managed to get an original letter from the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok?  Will they send it by mail?

Can anyone recommend a courier service that could pick up a letter from the Romanian embassy and deliver it to Chiang Mai?  My first thought was DHL, but we have not yet been able to arrange anything.

Thank you for any advice!

Other immigration offices have accepted emailed letters from the UK and US embassies.

Perhaps try again hoping to get a different officer.

I wonder if the problem with the Romanian embassy mailing it is the cost of sending it by EMS.  Do you do know anybody in Bangkok that could pick it up and send it to you?

Not sure if DHL has a prepaid service available here. Perhaps contact  Kerry Express about it.
