Samut Sakhon: Go out without a mask and face 20,000 baht fine

The governor of Samut Sakhon province has ramped up regulations to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the province.

Samut Sakhon is a large province on the coast to the south west of Bangkok between the capital and Hua Hin. Many people would normally traverse the province to travel north and south.

Sanook reported that there has been a rapid rise in coronavirus cases there prompting new rules.

Governor Weerasak Wijitsaengsri announced that from today everyone outside must wear a surgical or cloth mask until April 30th at least.

Powers under 2005 regulations are being invoked.

People will face fines of 20,000 baht for violating the order.

All people in the service industry must especially make sure they are wearing masks and businesses or organizations have the right to refuse service to anyone not wearing a mask.

In addition all businesses must observe stringent social distancing rules for employees and customers.

Great news, mister Weerasak Wijitsaengsri.

But where can we buy/procure those masks ?

Should we call the prime minister ? Or the office of a deputy minister... where some people seem to have a little business on the side ?

Thank you to enlight us.

We need your wisdom.

We need your leadership.

Now watch Marketplace Fb in that area, every other add will be masks for sale...of course at high prices

I ordered a couple sets of masks three weeks ago today, and I'm still waiting for it to arrive

Common guys, be a little creative. A scarf around the face will do.

But I am still wondering why people walking alone on the street far away from anybody else are wearing masks (apart from this province). Do they think they are protected from all evil by wearing it? Or do they think they protect others? There is no one around...

The clothes shops in my area have started making them, have all sorts of fancy coloured ones.

Maybe you guys asking should check at your local ones.

Hurray, soon we will know the names of all the Thai governors ....????????????

It could be that he has a personal advantage ....

So little creativity among people?

Why are the majority that are on motorbikes wearing masks but sans Helmet ....hmmmm not samesame

At least if you don't believe mask work for their intended use they do work at potentially saving 20,000 baht fine!

Unless they get educated on how to use and dispose of these mask correctly all their going to do is spread the virus and quicker, and i wonder how many of them are washing reusable mask every time they go out and how many use new disposable ones every time they leave the house.

Forget the masks. Why are people still going to restaurants. Close them.

Cloth masks so unsanitary especially if you actually had the virus.

Funny...all the fussing about masks when proper surgical or M94-5 masks nowhere to be found.

Funnier still the conspiracy by government crony to sell millions of masks abroad to Communist China.

People are wearing masks now just to avoid penalties. Whether they are useful, prevent infection or whatever isn't the point.

It's the same with traffic laws...in countries where penalties for infringing them are draconian, drivers are cautious. This explains why one gets dirty looks for exceeding the speed limit by more than 5km/h on Australian highways; because there are so many speed cameras and if you go more than 9km/h over (less in Victoria) you'll be booked. Plus you'll probably be snitched on by a fellow motorist, in the unlikely event a camera doesn't detect you first.

Thailand may have been lenient so far on traffic laws, but it has suddenly gone full 1984 on the virus front. Make no mistake, whatever Thailand did or didn't do in the past is irrelevant, right now they have emergency powers and are using them.

The Duke of Samut Sakhon has spoken.

Absolutely amazing, if not frightening, what kind of power is bestowed on these people.

In hindsight, I start to wonder, why they have a central government at all as Thamanat and Anutin are both not sparkling jewels in the crown of Prayut and his underling Prawatch. Latter is on a permanent shopping trip for little - mainly - navy toys anyway .........

Put a piece of duct tape over your mouth should do it.

Duct tape, rubber bands, a  couple layers of cloth = face mask. Be creative! This is just not a high tech thing.

Or one can moan about not being able to buy one.

... until the slealthy think-he-smart cop jumps out from behind the coconut palm; then coughs on you, from all the coconut husk dust he had just breathed in...

  • 2 weeks later...

I began to believe that this COVID is the lucrative joint venture of mask manufacturer and bioengineer.
