Pol Lt-General Piya Uthayo, spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police

People who violate the curfew under the Emergency Decree will face up to two years in prison and/or up to Bt40,000 in fines, spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, Pol Lt-General Piya Uthayo, said on Friday (April 3).

As of Friday night, people are prohibited from stepping out of their homes from 10pm to 4am, he said, adding that violators will be punished without an exceptions.

“In the first two days of the curfew, we will focus on publicising who can and cannot be outside, such as people working on the night shift or who return home from work during curfew hours,” he said.

“Those who must step outside during curfew hours are required to carry their ID card, a letter from the employer explaining the necessity and the phone number of the affiliated organisation and officials will consider this on a case-by-case basis.”

He said people who intentionally violate the curfew without reasonable ground will be penalised with a jail term and/or a fine.

“More checkpoints will be set up nationwide in collaboration with the Interior Ministry and more police officers will be put on patrol,” Piya said.

They need to use a big stick to get anything done here since no one gives a hoot about the rules usually.

Who says it won't be?  ????

Will inform our security guards!

Looking out from my balcony there is very little traffic 30  minutes past the deadline, but there still is traffic. And none are in the exempt category. Maybe better tomorrow night.

Have a great day

I guess the virus sleeps during the day so it is safe to go out then?

Hope it will soon escalate to a 24h lockdown. 22:00-04:00 is, IMHO, not only useless, but it will create more traffic as everybody is going to be bulging in to make the curfew hours. Just as idiotic as 90% of this dumb, psychotic wannabe govt.

I bet the coppers have $$$ signs floating in their eyes as they sleep. Finally what they've been dreaming of for years, a true Police State, has come true. How long before the army start to 'drop in' on local police stations to enquire about their cut of the proceeds, then things start to get tense and nasty between the two rival 'gangs'? My guess is it won't be too long before the first 'moved to an inactive post' articles start to pop up concerning the more belligerent top cops...Just make sure you're well stocked up, I hope you all have access to a nice place, to get some air. My maid tells me the roof of my condo has been a Godsend to her in recent weeks. She likes a drink, and her pal who she shares the work and pay with, both have a quiet, discreet, drink up there most evenings in isolation, and safety.

how do you know this?

Right. This lot couldn't work in an iron lung. Corrupt, incompetent and permanently handicapped by a Thai education.

If you get caught, do you have to get a haircut like this guy? fate worse than death...

I went outside at 10:05pm to see what had the dogs riled up.  Some sus looking dude sulking down the lane.  D@mn brother-in-law has no respect for the law.  ????

So from the comfort of your balcony you were able to interrogate the people still out driving around and none of them had a legitimate reason ?

That's some serious superhuman powers you have there !!

Right, the only problem, all the laws / rules in Thailand are made to be violated because nobody checks that they are respected ...
Last night I heard several vehicles turn around even after ten o'clock.

So what is "outside the house"?

I rent a house. Can I go outside to smoke and stay within my yard? Or is leaving the actual house breaking the curfew?

Might seem pedantic but just curious.

The motorcycle racing fraternity now race earlier!

Can we stay in self-imposed prison? I mean that seems to be all working fine with suspected infected people who are allowed 14 days of home quarantine (which they RIGOROUSLY observe, of course).

"Your home" is defined as the house itself plus its immediate surroundings that are part of the same compound. It's therefore no problem to go outside for a smoke as long as you don't go through your front gate and step out into the street. If you live in a condo, it's fine to go downstairs or into the parking lot for a cigarette as long as you don't go past its main entrance into the public street.

But hey, don't take my word for it. The plod are notorious for making up the rules as they see fit... and depending on how much they assess the potential "donation" to be.

In my small village I had a vision of not being awakened by dogs during the curfew hours, however no luck, as a lone army guy has been assigned to patrolling the village. While this is a good idea, the dogs don't like him. Woke me up around 2 AM.

This morning the village chief re-iterated the penalty of not complying and announced 2 villagers who broke the curfew are now in custody.

Yeah, thats what I worry about and was asking.

in other words, increasing the risk of infection, two-fold.

If you needed a hospital ER visit urgently during those hours and tried to make it to your nearest one ....guess that would be tolerated?
