No change in curfew hours

The current curfew hours from 10pm to 4am will be maintained, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Thursday (April 9).

 

There had been speculation that the centre had plans to declare a 24-hour curfew to contain Covid-19.

Only certain provinces...most are still selling booze

Bangkok is big province. However don't see  point of taking dummy away from baby. Sitting in a condo a beer is a small pleasure. Would choose it over netflix.

This will be interesting. The first shift (11 am to 2 pm) will be busy, but this would allow a one hour window (5 pm to 6 pm) in which booze would technically be available. Another case of "really didn't think this one through?"

My village shop sells beer and whiskey whenever you want it. That is not an isolated case in Thailand

Yes we have 3 hours in the morning/afternoon and 1 hour in the evening, we can safely say that Chonburi has come out trumps on this one, the only district to restrict in hours rather than days or even a month, kerching.

But just in case I went down to 7/11 on Tuesday and stocked up, I bought all the wine gums they had.

 No, but it should be correct before someone shares it as Gospel   Or come with a very big caveat. 

Looks like Korat/Nakhon Ratchasima has fallen too for a ban from 11th to the 18th. Can stock up tomorrow though.

Yes, it´s probably going to hurt many expats in Thailand. It might even improve their health. God forbid! How horrible and cruel.

Thinking as an adult that made it this far I can take personal responsibility for my health. 

Perhaps compulsory pilates classes next.

The one area that got it half right is Chonburi. Ban booze sales 6pm 6am.

As with many things in Thailand drinking is a group activity. Banning the sale of alcohol and therefore hopefully its consumption will reduce the number of people congregating and assist with social distancing.

 

Why now? Well despite the public holiday being canceled, the Songkran dates are next week. How many will attempt to visit family, congregate and increase the possibility of contracting Covid-19. Lack of alcohol at this time is likely to dampen this desire to congregate somewhat

Songkran is almost upon us. Yes, I know that officially the holiday is cancelled, but that doesn't alter the mindset of Thais one little bit, as most of us know.

 

Songkran means socializing and socializing, in Thailand need alcohol, just as does hogmanay in Scotland, you can't have one without the other.

 

The government does not want socializing, it spreads the virus. We all know that too, don't we. So ban alcohol sales. It won't work completely, we all know that too, but at least it will curb socializing a bit.

 

I'll be very happy to see the back of this virus, even though it has actually had little impact on my daily life. So I'm supportive of any measures that the authorities deem necessary to hasten its demise here.

 

Even if I do have to go without a wee dram for a few days. 

 

Suck it up and let's get this damn virus off our backs.

Your trying to make some vague point as per usual. To be fair I was amending my post as you replied. The ban on alcohol sales over very extended hours to try and curtail younger Thai going outside to drink in groups makes sense. The reported positive cases of that age group back that concern up.

People having a drink in their own homes do not need this sledge ????.

But fine I take your point scoring. It's a hobby.

Is that some crazy joke. I same as many live here. Have done for many years. In these crazy times, I do not complain about bars, restaurants etc all shut. Good thinking.

Now I can order in food to bkk condo but can't get a beer delivered.

First up there is no songkran this year.

Granted Thai will follow tradition to certain extent. Many provience ban sales till April 30. Bangkok till April 20. 

This is not so much about Songkran. 

The recent positive cases especially in bkk have been in younger age group that seem to still getting out for p### up with friends. Solution...ban alcohol sales. Stupid solution.
