PHUKET: Animals at Phuket Zoo are well looked after and have not been abandoned, contrary to reports on social media, claimed officials after an investigative inspection yesterday (Apr 17).

The zoo’s owner, Mr Suriya Tanthaweewong, has confirmed that he intends to close the zoo permanently, largely due to the economic fall-out from the COVID-19 situation.

However, given the current restrictions due to the island wide lockdown, it is not possible to immediately relocate the animals who have to be kept at the premises until the situation improves.

If officials say the animals are being taken care of, then that is worrying, when have officials here ever spoken truthfully?

A Tiger in a concrete cell is this what is meant by, in good care?

They are not looked after normally, so they sure as hell won't be looked after now.  Thailand's' zoos are a National disgrace and their past record of cruelty is well known. Just see how their captive Tigers are treated, or their elephants.

It´s really strange. If everything is so great, then what was the long video in the news that was posted of a person that went there? Was that video taken somewhere else, and he is a liar with video proof?

I recognize the Zoo from the video. Everything that is being said about how disgracefully the animals are treated there in the name of making a few baht are true.
