Corruption is the consequence of 'blood is thicker than water' culture. Top down approach to eliminate the corruption usually doesn't work. The population has to be educated to have mindset of 'social justice before the blood'.

In France it is in the tens of billions of euros;

Indeed. Sod everyone else, the only important person here is moi. Calm is one thing and good luck. Uncaring is quite another.

 

Still, it takes all sorts to make a world, and everyone thinks they're superior to all the rest in one way or another - it's part of the human condition. Rest assured that one day, the nature our friend believes he is an integral spiritual part of, will take a dump all over him. Because it doesn't actually give a toss.

And why the hell does Thailand need weapons anyway? Who is going to attack Thailand, and why? And, in case he hadn't noticed, those with evil intent are using cyber warfare to attack others now, governments as well as lone hackers. Guns and tanks and submarines are last century.

What a wonderfully Thai point of view. It doesn't affect me so I don't care. Never mind that 10 million Thais have lost their job. Can you imagine what is going to happen soon, with many of those on the brink of starvation. South Africa is in the same position, and now people are rioting and raiding supermarkets for food. When they start doing that in your neighbourhood, in Bangkok or 'up Northeast'. let's see how detatched from reality you are then.

Sadly corruption is endemic....unless you opt for the Chinese way of actually punishing the corrupt harshly even if they be high level party people, then there will be no way to eradicate or even stop it spreading.....corruption is the coronavirus of Thailand.

Asking a government made up largely of generals to stop increasing the budgets for weapons is like asking kids to stop asking for toys. The weapons and submarines etc make these guys go erect.

They need weapons to attack their own people, the only people they ever attack.   They may be the weapons of the last Century but remember for a lot of the time they like to keep Thailand back in the Dark Ages !
