Thai embassy reaches out to Thai woman infected with Covid-19 abroad

After a Thai woman in the Netherlands posted a video about her experience of becoming infected with Covid-19, the Thai Embassy in the Hague on Wednesday (April 22) contacted her to offer its help.

 

On April 21, the woman posted a video saying she was homesick and explaining that she had to twice plead to see a doctor before she was finally diagnosed with Covid-19. She said she had rarely left the house recently, but suspects the virus was passed onto her when a friend sneezed while they were together on April 15.

 

The Embassy revealed the woman told them that the doctor had treated her at home. Since then she has been receiving medication, and a Thai neighbour has been ensuring she has enough to eat.

 

The woman declined the embassy’s offer of help, saying she did not need it at this time. Embassy staff asked her and her neighbour to contact them immediately if any assistance was required and said they would continue to monitor her symptoms.

 

Home treatment is in line with the Netherlands' public health policy for controlling and treating patients with Covid-19. Only those with severe symptoms are advised to seek admission to hospital.

 

The Embassy also asked any other Thais in the Netherlands who fall ill or suffer a serious accident to notify them as soon as possible.

A 'good feel' story.  I can't imagine the British embassy in Thailand contacting a Brit in Thailand with Wuhan flu to check if they needed any help......

Tha Danish Embassy did call around to Danish people there signed up on the Danish list online ????

This is great and i wish her a full recovery but why is this girl specifically offered assistance when she doesnt want nor need it so clearly not so homesick as the story suggests. From what i understand many thais are sick around the world.

I think this is a Thai feel good story which is cool given the circumstancea but even so wish her well and everyone else struck down with the kungflu.

A perfect example of an embassy that really helps and care for their citizens in another country. Something other countries can take a note of.

Thais are under the impression that anyone who tests positive with COVID needs to be treated in hospital.

 

They don't come out and say it in so many words in the English language media but they're letting people know that the woman is 'not being treated properly' by the foreign government. In Thailand she would be in hospital for weeks.

 

She's made videos and been speaking to others and many Thais are aware of this case from social media including the wife who mentioned it to me earlier, the message she told me was that they're not treating people with COVID properly in Europe - that's the message that's being circulated amongst Thais.

 

This isn't the first time there's been a story in the Thai media about Thai nationals not being kept in hospital when they're infected. I heard about 1 Thai national who died in England after being told to self isolate at home and was denied a test.
