Thailand’s dry season is nearly over as summer storms are set to bring an average rainfall of 60 millimetres in 30 provinces, including the 12 provinces that have been hit by drought, said Dr Somkiat Prajarnwong, director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department.

Though the 25 major reservoirs in the country are less than 30 percent full and strict water management is required, he said, there should be plenty of water available by June.

The Meteorological Department is scheduled to meet in mid-May to work out exactly when the start of the rainy season can be forecast. It is believed that rain will be heavier this year compared to last year.

In line with the heavy rainfall forecast, related departments have been making preparations for water management and water demands in each area, especially in terms of irrigation during the new planting season.

Hopefully the CVD19 pandemic is well and truly under control by then, else it may just make matters worse, because apparently people fall sick more easily during the monsoon months and that's just what the CVD19 likes - immune systems that are already compromised.

June? so still 5 more weeks of drought conditions, Thai optimism at its best! Just ignore the next few weeks, hopefully all areas will get a storm or two, though going by recent years that hasn't happened!

Still no rain here in Bangkok - but should be here at around 01:00Am.

We really need it, it's sticky hot.

When they say a dam is 30% full it really means it is empty. It needs at least this amount to support the structure. I don't know details but if it was empty the wall would be under stress and would be severely damaged. It needs the water pressure pushing against it. Thats how it is designed to work.

Can't wait, get rid ofthe smog which itself adds to Covid-19 transmission.

Dry season? I prefer to think of it as effective flood control. Line up for the photo opportunity please......

OnTheGround- Where was it raining in Pattaya ? As anything falling beachside is wasted as it flows downhill straight into the Ocean. To do any good we need it to rain East of Suhkumvit preferable near Mabprachan area as that is the water supply for Pattaya area. Photos taken of Mabprachan 3 days ago show about less than 3% capacity

Drought is over. Let the flooding begin...
Thai management as always..

Why does it matter?  Floods now and water shortages next high season.  But wait!! Government says they have plenty of water.  My bad.

Reminds of parents responses to the question of 'are we there yet ?'

"The Meteorological Department is scheduled to meet in mid-May to work out exactly when the start of the rainy season can be forecast. It is believed that rain will be heavier this year compared to last year." ?

Certainly not going to argue with you ???? lot of permanently damaged "dams" going by your "theory, far right is current level, a lot are water catchment areas rather than dams, Udonrat is a flooded valley with a dam, that is at 14%.

Duuuuh. When the storms arrive, and it has been raining on and off for the past week or so, and it is getting into late April, we all know the rainy season is coming. Do we really need an "expert" to tell this to us?
