Does anyone know if the travel restrictions are getting lifted to get on and off the island in May, either by ferry or by flight

Ferries have been running all the time !! At least from Samui to Donsak...

    Getting on is restricted, but the island still need supplies of food and other stuff from the mainland, so some ferries are running to Don Sak. You can off the island, but check restriction where you are getting off to...:whistling:

    It seems you don't read news online. There are several news websites reporting daily about restrictions in the most popular Thai locations incl. Koh Samui. 

    Yesterday said some flights (didn’t mention carrier) will start May 1.

    That’s what I heard as well! No issues getting out at all. We live up north but our friend was able to fly back to the United States no problem.

    Our friend flew back to the US via United Airlines a few days ago.

    How did he do that? United Airlines has not flown to Thailand for years.

    Maybe book with United but the actual plane that left Thailand was another Star alliance company.
