Thailand reports 15 new coronavirus cases, no new deaths

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand on Sunday reported 15 new coronavirus cases and no new deaths, bringing the total number of cases since its outbreak in January to 2,922 cases and 51 deaths.

 

Of the new cases, four were linked to previous cases, another four had no known links, while five new patients are arrivals from overseas who have been under state quarantine.

 

Two other new cases were reported from the southern province of Yala, where the authorities are aggressively testing the population because of high infection rates there, said Taweesin Wisanuyothin, a spokesman for the government's Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration.

 

Since the outbreak in Thailand, 2,594 patients have recovered and gone home.

Allegedly they haven't had any high infection rates, anywhere.... Strange comment !

Not really relevant but an interesting stat:

 

The infected rate is almost exactly 1% of the road accidents

 

The death rate is almost exactly 1% of the road accidents

 

January to 2,922 cases and 51 deaths. (Covid)

Didn't predict but knew the numbers.

So ignoring the imported cases, that's a total of 10 new home-grown cases of C19, after the bottom-line figure of 11 yesterday. At least the numbers are consistent. It would be interesting to see details of the four with no known links to precious cases. I wonder if any of them are poor Thais or construction workers?

A high infection rate is relative. In this case high compared to other parts of the country. They have been testing loads in Bangkok and south of Thailand (yala).

All i can say is that figures are surprisingly good for Bangkok... looking at the traffic jam on Thonglor and Ekkamai yesterday... and seeing people sitting in semi-open air restaurants.

Chonburi said that, when Pattaya is locked down on 14th April, they would test 2800 foreigners within Pattaya. I have yet to see this happeninG.

If they aren't tested alive, why you think they will when they have passed away?

Interesting point. I have said before that after all this time I am sure the "official" stats are true or a whistle blower would have come forward. But are these stats like road accidents... only count those who die at the scene / in hospital with confirmed virus and ignore those who die at home or elsewhere due to "respiratory problems"? I for one would not believe this possible of such a caring / honest government.

You should have suggested "no more posts about road deaths," which is more predictable and equally pointless.

Indeed and/but one can extrapolate a very rough 'zone' of infection rate using number of deaths or to put it another way... more infections lead to more deaths. If the number of deaths is true, and I assume they are, the Thailand should be very proud of itself.

 

 

Just saw an article in which the WHO made the following statements and is warning that people who have had coronavirus are not necessarily immune by the presence of antibodies from getting the virus again.

 

“There is no evidence yet that people who have had COVID-19 will not get a second infection,” the WHO said in a new scientific brief. In addition to this the WHO warned against governments issuing “immunity passports” to people who have had COVID-19, assuming they are safe to resume normal life and stated that "At this point in the pandemic, there is not enough evidence about the effectiveness of antibody-mediated immunity to guarantee the accuracy of an 'immunity passport' or 'risk-free certificate,"  They have also stated that : “People who assume that they are immune to a second infection because they have received a positive test result may ignore public health advice. The use of such certificates may therefore increase the risks of continued transmission," 

I reviewed the findings they referenced but as this is still an on-going situation they are still reviewing evidence on antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19-infection. They did however state that “most” of the studies done have shown that people who have “recovered from the COVID-19-infection do have antibodies to the virus.”

Looking at what the governor of Buriram is doing in issuing a passport stamp, I see this in direct contradiction of what who is saying, albeit that WHO says those who have recovered, and the Buriram issue is for those who have quarantined and are not showing symptoms.  But then who know who is asymptomatic and who is not.

There needs to be a happy medium found as far as getting people back to work and restarting economies.  If they started to test and see, once antibody tests are available here, who has them, it may unfortunately give them more infections than they want to admit.  Damned if you do and Damned if you don't situation. 

Hard to believe but then again this is amazing Thailand TIT
