Insuring a Chevrolet product

Recommended Posts

I was informed by my insurance agent that Thai insurance companies are now capping insurance coverage on all Chevrolet products.  The cap is set at 100,000 baht (regardless of vehicle age).  There is one caveat, new off the showroom floor vehicles are capped at 50% of purchase price if I understood him correctly.  Supposedly this is being done under the guise of lack of availability of spare parts. Anyway, I am putting this out there to advise anyone thinking of buying a Chevy (new or used) to look into the insurance coverage available before you buy.

“GM will cease sales of Chevrolet vehicles in Thailand’s new car market by the end of 2020, but will continue to support existing Chevrolet customers for ongoing after-sales services, warranty and repair work through a national network of authorized service outlets," it said.

Someone forgot to tell the insurance companies.  You can believe what you read (that includes this thread); or, you can go directly to your insurance agent to get it straight from the horse's mouth. I own a Chevy that has 16k kilos on it; and, all they will give me is a 100k policy. That would cover most damage done in a fender bender; but, if the car is totaled I'm out the difference between actual value and that 100k. In the case of a financed vehicle that could be a significant hit to the wallet.

That cap of 100 K - is that for First Class ?

Will they continue to ensure for more for Third Class - i.e. if you smack a Benz will they fix the MB and only fix yours for 100 K Max ?

I was told they will not give first class.  It's second class at best.  I posted this to advise anyone who owns a Chevy; or, is thinking about buying one to get the info first hand from your insurance agent.  They are still offering "fix the other car" coverage; so, I would assume the answer to your question about the Benz is yes they will cover that.  I was pretty ticked off at the time; so, I wasn't retaining everything he was telling me.  BTW as was suggested by someone else there is no "try another insurance company option" my agent reps a bunch of companies they are all doing the same thing.

why ?

quote with Roojai,  colorado 2.8 ltz 2015 less than 25,000klm, covered 540,000thb premium 5,702thb

I believe that. He got that coverage when he financed it. If you buy it you will not get that coverage.  When he goes to renew he will not have that coverage.  Anyway, I keep saying ask an insurance agent before buying.  This is just a "buyer beware" service announcement on my part. Nothing more, nothing less.

Is there any trade-in value for a Chevy nowadays? I have an older Aveo (2012) and I am just hanging onto it. It is one step away from being a piece of junk. Like other American cars I have owned, it is starting to fall apart. I am praying I can find service centers or as a last resort, repair shops that can get counterfeit parts after the end of this year. In my AVEO you can turn off the igintion with the car in D4 and pull out the key. So in the event you forget to put the car in park, you better be able to run fast if it is parked on an incline. The Chevy dealer could not come up with a remedy. I think in the States it would be recalled at least. Gen Motors is a dodgy company anyway.

I would say anyone knowing the current insurance situation is going to steer clear of any Chevy unless it's like yours (almost not worth insuring).  I have to believe that Chevy knew damn well what was going to happen that's why they were selling them so cheap right after they announced their pull out.  I believe that BS public service announcement was just to suck buyers in so they could dump their stock before the bottom fell out completely.

My wife has a 2005 chevy optra ,looks like a newish car ,had very very few problems ,its a lovely manual gearbox car ,she has had from new .washes it all the time and gets it serviced every 6k ,its done 170000 km ,and is still insured 1st class at 110,000 baht ,its a terrific car. mind you i must admit the Aveo was a piece of junk from the start ,masses of complaints about it .

You got the wrong info my friend. I just run a quick quote on Roojai for a brand new Chevrolet Colorado. They offer 1st class insurance the coverage in the quote is 870k baht.

Exactly and what gets me is why OP is bothered, oil, oil filters, airfilters, brake pads & shoes, bearings etc, it's diesel engine that's OK just keep it.

We just did our renewal on our 2014 Trail Blazer... HAd to switch companies due to the original company capping our coverage.. We switch with the help of our agent AA insurance in HH... Matt is a straight up guy and his team get things done very well... We are back covered as before with 1st class insurance... We even put a claim in with the old company before it expired for some damage done over the years of use... All covered nicely...

Not  only  that the exact same vehicles  if  Colorado or Trailblazer are also  made in Brazil where Gm arent bailing out even though the Rayong factory is  closing

Well it don't matter much anyway so called genuine parts are made by companies that supply car/truck makers with service parts so they are available.

Its  rubbish plain and simple.

It's not rubbish. I went to another company in Sisaket, same answer.  What has been said on here is 100% true about Roojai they will get you the better insurance.  I then asked my agent WHY.  According to the agent Roojai has a large enough customer base that insurance companies will give them deals that smaller agencies can't get.
