Black water diarrhea and black water vomit

Featured Replies

Horrible title.

So out of blue black liquid in toilet.

Feeling of dissiness.

So much so had a fall.

Fortunately not damage to back.

Later vomit of considerable black water.

@Sheryl no doubt suggest I should be in hospital.

The issue is I have lost confidence in Thai private hospital since my recent fractured vertebrae and poor advice from my hospital.

Grateful that Sheryl recommended #1 spinal doctor.

So back to my bleeding issue.

Any suggestions appreciated.

If this could settle down then perhaps trip to Oz would be possible for treatment

Any hospital is better than no hospital, in the short term.

Good luck and get well soon.

Sounds very serious. Id get to the hospital as soon as possible.

Put your past experience aside this sounds almost life threatening.

  • Popular Post

That sounds like gastrointestinal bleeding, which can get life-threatening very quickly.

You need a hospital asap, for control of vital signs, complete blood count and probably gastroscopy.

Any hospital will do, doesn't matter much if you trust them or not.

You are not fit to fly, you might arrive dead.

Or you may become the reason for a diversion of the flight for medical reasons, and end up in a hospital in Indonesia.

A diversion costs the airline about 100,000 USD, they might want to recoup it from you.

You have a GI bleed and must go at once to a hospital ER.

Where are you located? And do you have insurance? I will suggest which hospital

To be clear: you need to go AT ONCE to the Emergency Room of a large hospital. Do not delay. Government hospital can handle this as well (or better) than private as long as of reasonable size.

If possible have someone go with you, you may become faint/lose consciousness.

They will need to know what medications you are on, especially if any aspirin, NSAIDs or anticoagulants.

They will check your vital signs, start an IV, take bloods for hematocrit & hemoglobin and perhaps blood type and coagulation parameters.

The rest will depend on what these initial checks show, but I would anticipate being admitted or at minimum held for several hours of observation, and at some point they will probably need to do endoscopy(ies) to try to identify the cause of the bleeding.

From what I've read you need to go now, call an ambulance

Medical Urgency

This individual is experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency and needs immediate evaluation at an emergency department.

Likely Cause

Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Bleed: Black, tarry liquid in the toilet (melena) and dark, "coffee-ground" or black vomit (hematemesis) are classic signs of heavy bleeding in the esophagus, stomach, or duodenum. Stomach acid turns digested blood black.

Massive Blood Loss: The dizziness and fall indicate severe fluid/blood loss, hypovolemia, or acute anemia leading to orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure).

Common Triggers

Severe peptic ulcer disease

Bleeding esophageal varices

Severe gastritis or mucosal tears (e.g., Mallory-Weiss syndrome)

Adverse reactions to high-dose NSAIDs or blood thinners

Critical Considerations

Waiting to fly back to Australia in this condition is extremely dangerous. Severe GI bleeding can cause rapid cardiovascular collapse, hemorrhagic shock, or airway compromise from vomiting blood while unstable.

Even with lost confidence in a specific local facility, they need to go to a major tertiary hospital or trauma center immediately for stabilization, blood transfusion if necessary, and an urgent endoscopy to stop the bleeding

Contact your friend now. Any delay may be fatal. Get to an Emergency Department ASAP, do not delay.

Why are not in an ambulance/taxi heading to the hospital ?

Thanks guys.

Currently in taxi on way to hospital.

Taking heed of good advice

As others have said, sounds like internal bleeding, and unlike your earlier issue, most hospitals will be able to deal with it.

Drink plenty of water while waiting for treatment. The hospital may use an IV drip to avoid dehydration - which looks dramatic but it is just a simple way to rehydrate.

Maybe something simple such as related to what you've eaten recently, or perhaps internal bleeding from ulcers etc, so hope you get sorted soon.

Will be good to see an update when you're feeling up to it.

Good luck DrJack. Hoping it's curtailed soon for you, and we see you back with good results.

Get better soon mate :)

Sounds serious, but hope it isn;t.

Good luck!

So what the good folk in the thread have suggested is the plan.

Just have doctor chat.

Had nasal endoscopy check bleed + as someone suggested IV for fluids and most likely blood transfusion.

Dr suggested Apo-Rivaroxaban may have contributed and even ibruphen for back.

Just finished the line via nasal.

Uncomfortable to say the least but on good that no blood in the in/out water.

Again thanks.

Good luck to you. I had the same in the UK and I was in an ambulance pretty sharpish after my legs had ceased working . Blood transfusions and omeprazole had me fixed in about 4 or 5 days.

Glad you are where you should be and getting care.

Keep us posted.

The anticoagulant plus NSAID (ibuprofen) could well be factors.

Good thing you made it to a hospital.

Hoping everything goes well for you.

Any news?

Later this morning an EGD which is a camera down throat to check things out.

At some point will provide run down of hospital procedures as might be helpful.

Things such as providing deposit through to payment etc.

In the past I've had a partner now doing it alone.

Observation so far... I have been to this hospital many times. Even for hip replacement.

Never been to ER.

I assume I would have had basic assessment and pushed onto main hospital. Not so.

I'm being housed in ER and not general population

That's rough. Good luck I hope it's nothing serious and you're back home soon.

Scary stuff, keeping my fingers crossed for your full and speedy recovery ,

So good result this morning.

Had the EDG (camera down throat) also bowel.

BTW if you ever have to have that procedure then relax. The needle knocks you out.

Next thing you hear is "all done"

The good news:

Apparently I have stomach ulcers.

The Dr showed very clear colour pics of past ulcers that had healed and current White one that at least had stopped bleeding.

Shout out to @Sheryl who suggested (ibuprofen) may have been an issue.

I had up that to two a day (lower back pain) and first thing Dr said was to cut that.

That's not a problem.

Obviously will do their checks tomorrow, maybe even a blood test.

Then hopefully out of here tomorrow or certainly following day.

Last update will be about payment.

They wanted 50k deposit.

For some reason my debit card was declined.

Fortunately I always have my bank book and ATM card and hospital has kasikorn ATM so hopefully no issue.

did the cam go throat before bowel ?

Jokes... Jokes.

Good to hear ya on top of it.

Glad to hear you're going to be with us...

That's always an issue with my K-Bank card at Bumrungrad and Sametivij, which are where I get my doctoring done. I don't have any pearls of wisdom, except to be ready for it. It's a good cautionary tale, and one of the reasons I keep a few thousand $$USD around for emergencies. (Not that they take USD, I had to go across the street to swap it out.) Less than I have in my K-Bank account, but daily limits don't apply when swapping cash, including my self requested daily limits on my "back home" debit cards. I've also stopped in person at a K-Bank branch on my way to the hospital to withdraw cash.
