I ate in a restaurant yesterday, it was dead.  People would rather eat at home where they can have a drink with their meal.

What a misery you are. You deride someone who likes wine with dinner, or prefers a beer over a water?

Yes I will say to a drunk that cannot go out to enjoy a meal without

alcohol. You are pathetic, how does your wife feel?, It is most

likely that she is the cook, and would appreciate a meal out that

she does not have to cook. So once again Jack if you are an

alcoholic, too bad so sad.

Geezer

So, in your opinion, anyone that has a glass of wine with dinner is an alcoholic? Interesting

Removed a troll post.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

No, I believe what he is saying is that the vast majority in pattaya have lives that revolve around alcohol. They can't go anywhere, eat anywhere, do anything without booze.

it was a life altering scenario when the booze ban was enforced.

a glass of wine or such with dinner is not what he was speaking of.

When a person is enjoying a beer at 8-9 am, it's sad to see.

but to each their own.

Not what he said.

Sorry Bangsaenguy,  if English is not your first language. I have been to

Thailand many times and have seen many expat husbands who are

stumbling alcoholics. They are not fun to be around, slobbering and

hanging onto me when they are trying to have a chat. So I was saying that

if you cannot even take your Thai wife out for a meal, without needing to

drink a wine or a beer then it is likely you are like the people I have been

talking about.   Thanks Ron as I do have friends and even relatives that

live in Pattaya, so I do also know people there who are not alcohalics

as well. I do prefer their company for sure.  Hope this clears up the comfusion.

What it means is that alcohol availability is the driving force for eating out and/or socialising with others - and the lack of alcohol at outside venues discourages people from leaving home. As demonstrated by the above quiet scenario in Pattaya.

Which is the whole point of the ban and lockdowns. Keeping people from congregating willy-nilly. Why posters cannot see that, is beyond my comprehension.

You are confusing having a drink while eating with being an alcoholic. Not the same. Are you on some kind of crusade?

 ........ and loose women.

I can live without the restaurants, but not without the alcohol and women of easy virtue.

Geezer

Tosh and English is my first language. I live in Pattaya and don't know one expat that fits your description.

For my own part, I'm very much a social drinker who normally prefers soda with ice and a slice with my meal. Also, being from the North of England, dinner is my main meal of the day and served around noon. I have never been partial to alcohol before sunset. I never drink in the house so, thus far, not a drop has passed my lips since before the lockdown, more than a month now. I can't say that I really miss it.

What I do miss is sitting in a bar on a Saturday night, having a few bourbons and having a laugh with friends old and new.

However I do have one vice, having a full monty for breakfast, washed down with a pint of Stella. Probably do that 3 or 4 times a year now. Is that a crime?

I certainly prefer my lifestyle to that of someone who spends his days sat behind a computer, thousands of miles from Thailand, pouring vitriolic and nonsensical scorn on Thai expats, a group of people you clearly know nothing about.
