Warning: venues not following rules ‘will be shut down immediately’

Interior Ministry permanent secretary Chatchai Promlert has ordered all provincial governors to closely monitor business venues that were allowed to open after the government eased its lockdown measures and make sure they adhere to all rules and regulations, or face immediate shutdown.

 

“It has been reported that many establishments have ignored the government’s policy of social distancing as well as regulations related to their business operations,” he said in the order on Monday. “For example, some dine-in restaurants are not providing enough space between persons, or some shops are selling liquor outside the allowed times,” he added.

 

“Governors must therefore monitor these establishments closely and make sure they do not violate any rules, either general laws or the government’s emergency decree. Task forces should be assembled to perform random checks periodically. Any violator will have their establishment shut down until further notice,” Chatchai warned.

 

He also urged governors and local administration offices to organise public relations campaigns to educate people on how to safely use the services of these establishments without risking spreading Covid-19 in their communities.

I don't understand. Magnificant Thailand has done a fantastic job with the virus. Single digit numbers. should all be fine. Yes, some caution is needed but maybe it's because they know as everyone knows if you don't test, you don't know. Thailand is right down with the bottom group of countries for testing so stands to reason they have no idea of the true numbers.

Total BS!!! How-bout the BTS ???? How many people can you lie to before you get busted? I'm gonna' bet you will try your da*nest to make it as far as you can go!!! And then, YOU still won't care!

Hypocrites all of them. 

How can you put a stop to the BTS crush? Today was a prime example from what I saw on Richard Barrows Twitter feed. No social distancing at all as bluntly as anyone could see, it was impossible to do.

You can't so forget this stupidity and let people go about their business. I came here to get away from Nanny State and now Thailand is getting worse the Europe.

Yes you cannot do anything about this but I have friends who are going bust from not being able to open. If you can rush around the BTS like being in a mosh pit with 'no' social distancing, you should be able to open up most businesses that can social distance.

 

It is pure madness.

I was out at a restaurant today and shopping afterwards. The good side of the usual total non-enforcement of rules in Thailand is that you can just go everywhere without a mask. No issue at all in Chiang Mai. Was without a mask everywhere, nobody said a thing. 

The wife and I had to attend a meeting today with the Ministry of Public Health along with another 49 small shop owners to be informed that as we are in the "red" classification of the 4 groups of businesses we will be the last to be allowed to open and as things are at this moment they said that the earliest date was 14 June, but that depends on there being no problems with the other 3 groups that will be allowed to open before us. We were told that if the earlier groups that are allowed to open abide by the rules and the public co-operated by abiding by the restrictions then everything should be ok, but if there is any breaches to the rules and restrictions then the restrictions will be put back into place which will mean that our shop will be closed that much longer and as the landlord wants their money for the rent and we have no income from the shop like a lot of the others that were at the meeting today, there is serious thought of closing the business completely because there is no way that the general public both Thai and farang are going to abide by the rules, there is plenty of evidence with that. Look at Makro on Sunday when the alcohol sales ban was lifted and over 600 were arrested last night outside curfew hours drinking alcohol, gambling and doing drugs, so it is only going to be a matter of time before those who were allowed to open will be closed again and then it will be start all over again and it just is not worth the trouble.

Maybe it is time for every business to simply close shop. When it all comes to a halt, people will need to wake up to reality. Everyone is happy to let business owners bite the bullet while they cower in the corner.

You may have heard something about them trying to prevent an epidemic? Just because a government wants to implement public health measures does not make for a "nanny state". You should maybe try Somalia, it may be more to your liking. Worse than Europe? The lockdowns in Italy and other countries are even more severe than Thailand. Here in Canada it is just about the same as in Thailand (I left Thailand just before the real lockdown began, had a couple of beers in the last pub remaining open before my flight left, most bars had already closed). Main difference in Canada is they haven't banned liquor sales (or cannabis sales).

 

That being said, I do kind of agree with you. They are going overboard on some specific measures, most notably the ridiculous ban on alcohol which achieves next to nothing.

 

And they should have done something about overcrowding on the BTS long ago, epidemic or not! If they can't do something about that in this situation they might as well open everything up because its far more likely to spread there than in a restaurant.

Time to shut all the businesses except for the responsible big corporate stores.  All small business need to be shut down so that the little people aren't tempted to break the rules.  If everything is shut then these people will stay home instead of spreading death to their neighbours.  And Thailand needs a 'Snitch' line so that caring responsible citizens can document and report social distancing violators.  Its the only way to save lives.  Freedom kills.  Shut it down.

You mean like the big stores selling beer by the pallet load!Yeah responsible corporates?
