China says it backs WHO in tracing COVID-19, denounces U.S. 'lies'

BEIJING (Reuters) - China said on Thursday it supports the World Health Organization (WHO) in trying to pinpoint the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic and accused U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of telling one lie after another in his attacks on Beijing.

 

The virus has killed more than 255,000 people worldwide, including more than 70,000 in the United States, the worst-affected country, since it was first identified in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in December.

 

Pompeo accused China of withholding virus samples he said were needed for global vaccine research, and he demanded transparency. Most experts believe COVID-19 originated in a market selling wildlife and jumped from animals to people, but Pompeo and U.S. President Donald Trump have said there is evidence it came from a laboratory, without elaborating.

 

Pompeo also accused the WHO of being too slow to respond to the disease and said it “needs to still demand that there be an investigation” in China.

 

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying, addressing reporters in Beijing on Thursday, said China supported WHO efforts to investigate the origin of the pandemic.

 

“We are always open to cooperate with the WHO on matters, including on the question of origin,” she said. But she repeated a timeline of signals from France, Sweden and the United States itself that the virus may not have emerged in China.

 

“While scientists have not come to a conclusion, why is Secretary Pompeo drawing the hasty conclusion that the virus came from a Wuhan lab? Where is his proof? Show us the proof. If he cannot show any evidence, then he may still be in the process of making up this evidence.”

 

The WHO has urged countries to investigate any early suspicious cases and called earlier comments about a possible laboratory source by Pompeo “speculative”.

 

Hua said Pompeo had contradicted himself in interviews about the virus. “The reason why he contradicts himself is because he is always making up a lie to cover up another lie. This is an open secret.”

 

‘WORSE THAN PEARL HARBOR’

 

At a White House event on Wednesday, Trump, who is seeking re-election in November, called the virus the worst “attack” the United States had ever experienced, and blamed China for not stopping it.

 

“This is worse than Pearl Harbor. This is worse than the World Trade Center,” Trump said. “And it should have never happened. It could have been stopped at the source. It could have been stopped in China. It should have been stopped right at the source, and it wasn’t.”

 

He has accused the WHO of being “China-centric” and acting too slowly to fight the disease, and threatened to withdraw funds, while many scientists have said now is the time to increase funding and global cooperation to find a vaccine.

 

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii in 1941 and al Qaeda militants flew hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center in New York on Sept. 11, 2001.

 

Hua said the only enemy was the virus.

 

“Because that is the common enemy of all of humanity... Faced with this mankind battle against the virus, China should be (a) U.S. comrade in arms, not enemy.”

 

She also said that Chinese local governments and companies had donated 9.6 million masks, 500,000 test kits, 305,000 pairs of gloves and 133,500 pairs of goggles to 55 cities in 30 U.S. states as of Tuesday.

 

Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of Trump’s Coronavirus Task Force, said in an interview published on Monday the best evidence showed the virus was not made in a lab, but appeared to have “evolved in nature and then jumped species”.

 

The European Union ambassador to China said on Thursday it was “regrettable” that part of an opinion piece about the pandemic co-authored by 27 European ambassadors and published in the official China Daily had been removed before publication.

 

A comparison between the original op-ed uploaded onto the EU embassy website and the one published on Tuesday by the China Daily showed that in a sentence beginning, “But the outbreak of the coronavirus”, the words that followed - “in China, and its subsequent spread to the rest of the world over the past three months” - had been removed.

All good in theory.

The  WHO is  only  able  to ascertain fact from  fiction from  data/statistics provided  other  than testimony  from  allowable  sources. The WHO is  left in a  defensive  position due  to unsubstantiated  claims against it.

The   World  can await . There will be  no  conclusive conclusion . Politically it is a question now so  contaminated  even a  virus  will stay clear ! But because of exactly that  we could expect to suffer  worse !

 

China will only back WHO as long as they don't say that the WuFlu came from China.

 

The minute WHO realizes (they probably already did) that the virus came from China (either wet market or lab), and grows a pair and tells it publicly. Then China will call WHO a liar or Trump servant etc etc.

 

China should realize this scandal is to big to be buried.

After WHO investigate China, they should investigate US labs too. Will US allow? 

Trump and his government assistants have spread so many lies, inaccuracies, and half-truths in the past that the US government's credibility has been ruined forever. Even if the accusations were true, who else would believe this US government anymore?

China already know the source of the virus, but will never acknowledge it. Better to leave the matter open and use conspiracy theories to deflect from the fact they were stocking up on supplies before they told the world about human to human transmission and allowed a third of Wuhan to escape and infect the world so they would not be the only ones to suffer. 

I think there is a lot more to be investigated and idiots like Donald Trump and his second in charge Pompeo with their lies and unproven accusations are not helping. 

One thing of interest is this Algerian man from France that the French hospital has now claimed that he had Covid-19 but was not tested for it back in December and it only came to light when they have done more test on samples from him lately and the hospital has also said that there are other cases similar to this mans which need to be re-tested. This Algerian man was originally tested before the Wahun outbreak, so how many other people from other countries have been infected by this virus and not been tested because they were before this virus broke out in Wahun. How long has this virus been floating around the world without anybody knowing it until it broke out in Wahun? I think that every country in the world needs to check previous flu tested cases to see if they were the flu or was it this virus. The French hospital that treated this man even claims that the original test on him were for the seasonal flu and the test showed to be negative but he still had the same ailment and no further tests were done until recently.

Maybe there needs to be a check on all previous seasonal flu test that have been carried out for at least the last 6 months before Wahun and if there are cases that show this virus in them then go back another 6 months until the very first case is found and then investigate from there for the origin of this virus and not speculate because of racial hatred.

I hate to break this to you but not only has WHO said that Covid-19 came from Wuhan in China, the Chinese government agree.

 

I think it is misleading to call it "We-flu" as Flu (Influenza) is a completely different virus, much less infectious.

I have not read about any public figure from CCP that has officially acknowledged that the virus originated in Wuhan - but maybe you have better sources.

There are truly some incredibly naive people on here. The so called Covid-19 virus, Wuhan flu, did in fact start in Wuhan, China. Eric Loh does need to read more.

Well, it has been proven that the first case so far had never been to China and had no ties to China. He is an Algerian that lives in France and he was in Algeria in August 2019 and he was not feeling well and went to a French hospital in December and they tested him for seasonal flu and the result came back negative and they did no further tests until after the virus breakout in Wahun. Now frozen samples have been retested and they have returned a positive for Covid-19. So where did this man get the virus because he had NO links to China and this was before Wahun. France and many other European countries are now checking other people who tested negative to the seasonal flu but still suffered from the symptoms around the same time or even earlier to see if they also were positive with this virus

Maybe an international scape goating exercise with a domestic agenda in mind.

Where is your documented proof that the virus STARTED in China. There is proof from the French Hospital of the Algerian man that was tested for seasonal flu and that test was negative and he was not tested any further and after Wahun breakout, frozen specimens were sent from Algeria to France for retesting but this time they were tested for Covid-19 and the tests were positive. This man had NO ties to China and the original tests were before Wahun breakout. So that means that the virus was present in either Algeria or France before Wahun. The Algerian man had been in Algeria in August 2019. There are many hospitals in Europe looking at retesting samples that had been tested for seasonal flu only and now they are going to check for Covid-19 which was not done before Wahun breakout. It is going to be interesting times ahead when they start to get the results in to see how far back this virus goes before it broke out at Wahun and where it originated from.

You are factually wrong. The current Corona virus was first detected in Wuhan but the origin has still not been determined. Ad hominem doesn't make you look smarter. Using a photo of a deceased person to try stress your point is vile and disrespectful.

WHO will never blame China, or say anything that might displease China while it's boss is a communist who regards China as a role model.

The WHO are corrupt, I'm glad the USA took away the funding, the UK should follow suit. And as for China, you can never trust a totalitarian communist state like them.

Do some research and you will find it. It has been in the news all over the world. It is an Algerian man that lived in France, and it was the French hospital that released the news. The results of the test were released by the French Hospital.

If he flew on an international flight, he had ties to China.  I challenge you to find a cross border flight on which there are no Chinese folks...

That means that the virus was alive in France and Algeria in August 2019 according to your thinking.

The Corona Virus on bats research project was a US project (NIH). it started 2014 and ended 2019. it was outsourced to Wuhan because this kind of research is illegal in the US. please read all details in Desktopmode. please download the site. payments went directly to the bio lab in Wuhan.
