I have a friend(Brit) who is married to Thai girl in the UK.

They are returning to Thailand to live.

What sort of visa will he get ? He would like to work.

He is 35 years old.

Your friend should apply for a multiple-entry non-immigrant visa category O, purpose of visit “visit family”. Enclose copy of the marriage certificate with application. Ask consulate if they need anything else.

After arrival in Thailand, once he can show family income (his income, his wife’s income, or a combination of both) of minimum 40,000 Baht per month he can apply at the local Immigration office for an annual extension of stay.

Just to add, as it appears he does not know the rules yet, he must have a work permit to work here and that is not something you get for working at the 7-11 so he should really plan his move and financial situation before making the plunge. 35 is a long way from a comfortable retirement for most people.
