Sadly many posters here don't want to follow the law, and current ban. They choose to ignore the fact beach ban also in other countries.

Many only think themselves, rather than see the big picture here, to reduce Covid-19.

Remember: we are guest here.

We would not dare to do the same in our home country.

They are protesting because they don't believe C19 is real.

It's hard to feel sorry for people like in the pics above who make themselves look so stupid.

And in a country with so few deaths.

What about when the Chinese hordes start to arrive again? Are you saying none of them will be carriers?

Yes.

3 hours ago, thaibeachlovers said:

Could it be that they want bad publicity so that farangs don't return to Pattaya, so the Chinese can have it all to themselves? 10 or 20 thousand would be a sufficient fine, but 100,000 is just barking IMO unless there is a reason for it to be so high.

Your  statement makes a lot of assumptions and asks that we suspend  reality. Here's what your logic requires for there to be "bad publicity";

1. A  large enough number of people have to be reading local Pattaya  news for this to have an impact.

Question: Months prior to visiting a destination on holiday, do you spend time seeking out local petty crime stories  involving tourists? Do you think Russians are going to do this, and will read an English language news source? do you think  the typical  Gulf state or Indian visitor will be aware of the event? How about  Charlie Chav from Colchester  or Otto from Munchen?

2. Do you think that  Russian visitors will actually change their  travel plans because of this story? Seriously? Where else can they go because it is not as if the world   has an open door policy for Russians.

3. Do you really believe that someone is going to  not go to pattaya  because of this? There is a reason why  most people go to pattaya. Hint: It is not for the museums or the  kite festival. Perhaps the marching band competition and nothing is going to  stop some gent from playing the trombone in Boyztown, or playing the Bongos at the Kit kat club.

4. The Chinese won't be coming  back anytime soon. The Chinese economy is going to be hit  soon as the world's rage slowly boils over.

I don't think anyone really cares about these three. Besides they really do have horrid beachwear. I think they were wearing those outfits  when they  visited the Black Sea back in 1985.

In addition to 100's of big Warning signs in many languages, this is new from yesterday. 1 tent across Central Festival and this 1 near soi 12-13. Many officers at both location + increased motorcycle patrols.

I wonder if they was wearing there face masks when swimming ????????

When ever I went in the sea I wore a face mask.

Should of shouted out SHARKS .  But little effect on Russians.

This will hurt tight arsed Russians who will be counting the cost in beers lost at the 711

Hey should be given a medal for swimming there

all jokes aside read the bloody signs you know the coppers are a bit cash strapped at the moment

Personally, I would take a positive view of the authorities actually enforcing laws that are there for the protection of others.

Are you another covid specialist?

Before throwing them at the dogs as some do, according to the place where they entered the beach we cannot be certain that they saw the prohibition sign, any more than they understood what the first Thais wanted to tell them. Nooo I don't defend them it's just a remark!

I have never been in favor of stoning without knowing the details... while some do not go out without their bags of stones????

You understand? Is different right?

It never occurred to you that all these deaths and even more these many injured for not wearing a helmet cost a fortune to this country!

Yesterday in Jomtien I saw a Thai vagrant walk on to the beach carrying a bag of his meager belongings. Walked to the water’s edge, stripped off stark naked and went in the sea to have a wash. This was observed by 2 Police who watched from the road for a couple of minutes then walked on. Clearly didn’t want him in their clean newly sanitized cells, plus he obviously had little or no money.

That's not the point.

This is not about you, or my needs or wants.

I used to be on Jomtien beach 5 days a week, all day. We all miss the beach.

Laws and ban should be followed, beach ban in other countries too. Up to 100,000 baht is too much, but again the law is the law.

We not yet seen any posts confirming that 100,000 fine was issued and paid. I guessing those caught got away with far less amount.

All those who say ignore it: go to the beach now, walk on the sand or swim. I highly reccomend you do this near Central Festival or soi 12.

Put your money (up to 100k), where your mouth is.

Or stop tell people that stupid laws should be ignored.

Again, they was given soft warnings first!

They choose to continue swimming. Then municipal officers in blue uniform, called the police.

This could easily been avoided, with a surprised face, I didn't know, and a Wai, case dismissed.

These russians choose deliberately to continue swimming. No more excuses.

For immersing their bodies in that sewage they call Pattaya seawater they should be given awards and certificates of appreciation,

I'm not condoning these idiots and what they did but just to put things into perspective .... I once did a project relating to a bad or unreasonable experience... did you know that for every one person that is the recipient of this experience they tell 10 others about it (= 10 people), those 10 then tell another 10 people (= 100 People), those 100 people then tell another 10 people (= 1,000 people), those 1,000 people then tell another 10 (= 10,000 people), those 10,000 people then tell another 10 (= 100,000 people) and so it goes on. How to put off tourists (even further) in one fowl swoop.

I had made as I said this remark, but it is obvious that if it was with full knowledge of the facts they were wrong of course.
Besides in Thailand as a Westerner, one has to be a bit stupid not to respect the laws and regulations, so that problems do not fall on us at the first opportunity.
I prefer to give first the benefit of the doubt, but otherwise, I will not feel sorry for these people!

Today i saw a line of people waiting for free food. Mostly having no masks, no social distancing too, but surely i can understand that they have no money to pay fines.

Perhaps it's all ok for you and some other, but this double standard is not doing much for this country's reputation.

Ok so people in a line waiting for free food because they have no  money and need to eat. Maybe they should keep social distance and wear a mask but don't so you want the police to fine them? They have no money--can warn them to distance but food is nescessary  sitting  on a beach to get  a tan is not. They know of the regs but since they don't agree think they are above the law they do what they want.

I just got out of swimming in the sea in Koh Chang. I managed to make it back alive.

Swimming in the sea, out in the sunshine, is more physically and mentally healthy than being cooped up in your hotel room.

Governments should concentrate on keeping vulnerable people (80 years old and up) safe and allow the rest of us to get back to living our lives. We will be living with the economic consequences of the lockdown for many years.

Regardless, demonising the very people you need to come back in numbers in the minds of the locals is not the wisest policy, given the revenue needed.

Er, I think covid cost more.

The IMF saw a far more optimistic scenario as recently as January. The pre-outbreak economic situation was poised to improve GDP per capita in 160 countries. Yet the pandemic has quickly plunged the world into "a global recession we have not seen in our lifetimes," the director said, leaving governments racing to avoid a total meltdown.

The organization has pledged to use its $1 trillion lending capacity to aid nations through the health crisis, but Georgieva emphasized the importance of nations getting ahead of the economic damage. Major economies have already unleashed trillions of dollars in stimulus and central bank easing, but rampant aid needs to be kept in check for long-term recovery, she added.

There are 20-30 people on the beach of my hotel every day. The beach bar sold beer through the whole lockdown.

There are people enjoying all the beaches. For the time booze could not be sold foreign businesses complied. But little local restaurants sold beer in coffee mugs. They have to make a living.

I am healthy and under 80. Look at the stats. I am more likely to die in a crash than of Covid-19.
