U.S. coronavirus death toll tops 80,000 - Reuters tally

(Reuters) - U.S. coronavirus deaths topped 80,000 on Monday, according to a Reuters tally, as nearly all states have taken steps to relax lockdown measures.

 

Deaths in the United States, the epicenter of the global pandemic, have averaged 2,000 a day since mid-April despite efforts to slow the outbreak.

 

The death toll is higher than any fatalities from the seasonal flu going back to 1967 and represents more U.S. deaths than during the first eight years of the AIDS epidemic, from 1981 to 1988.

 

Total coronavirus cases in the United States have exceeded 1.3 million with infections rising in such states as Mississippi, Minnesota and Nebraska, highlighting the risk of a new wave of COVID-19 outbreaks.

 

Cases are falling in New Jersey and New York at the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States, accounting for nearly half of the American deaths from COVID-19, according to the Reuters tally, and the two states have among the strictest lockdown rules still in place.

Allow flights from UK and Ireland with no checks or quarantines after stopping flights from Europe.  Dems fault?

Ensuring social distancing on domestic flights.  Dems fault?

Ensuring social distancing on Amtrak.  Dems fault?

Having States compete against one another to source and buy PPE.  Dems fault?

Not enacting DPA to make sure enough PPE produced.  Dems fault?

Doing pretty much zero Federal prep work for the whole of February.  Dems fault?

Setting out guidelines for opening, then calling on States to "Liberate" against those very guidelines.  Dems fault?

Stating again and again and again that anyone who wants a test can have one.  But failing miserably.  Dems fault?

Stating there is no problem, really, but going into a tailspin of fear when someone close to the President test positive.  Dems fault?

 

The list goes on and on and on.

 

No matter how you cut it, the Federal response has been woeful.  The constant attempts to shift blame while, at the same time, trying to take credit for imagined "wins" is breathtaking.  Will all the Stable Genius's fans still think he can do no wrong and blaming Democratic Governors when States run by Republicans start to see numbers ramping up ?  Probably

NONE of the above has ANYTHING to do with the horrendous death toll and mismanagement of those 2 states which account for almost half of the US coronavirus deaths - not to mention most of those are contextless swipes and fake news.

 

People who post things like you posted do not have any desire to know why things are happening the way they are in the USA, its partisan trash from unserious people who from day one couldn't look past Trump, and refuse to do so even now - which is unfortunate because people who need legitimate blame will go un punished and not held to account for their actions and decisions both in the face of the virus and their management prior to the virus that leads to the deaths of so many people.

It’s still early days.

 

Let’s see the final body count, including that within republican run States that, like Florida, are currently hiding their death rate data.

From what i remember about Florida you'd have to shake half the population to see if their Dead or not

480,000 died yearly alone from smoking, 647,000 from heart disease and did the world stop.

havent heard of the smoking virus. If a smoker is near me do i  have to take anti smoking tablets for fear of becoming addicted.

Very relevant, and even worse, four and a half million people die every year from diabetes related ailments, but do they outlaw sugar ?

How do all these countries know who died from what.Many have 500K die every year in UK. Seems a bit Guesstimated in some places.

That's the problem in the US, either all dems or reps or dems vs fed (trump) ... it's unbelievable painful to watch this from the sidelines how divided this country is. It's all blaming and fighting, fighting the dems, fighting the reps, fighting the media ... meanwhile all the ppl die.

Using Senator Elizabeth Warrens brother as just one example.  He is listed as a Coronavirus death.  He was 86, suffered from cancer for several years, caught pneumonia in February.  After admittance for treating the pneumonia he was exposed to the virus and died.  Now did he die of old age, the pneumonia, heart congestion from the pneumonia etc.  Also unknown is that even if he did not catch Covid 19 that he would not have died from his other ailments.  

 

Just saw on the news that New York is going to open up and they still have 200 a day dying !!  <deleted> !  We still have restrictions in Perth and there have been 8 days straight with no new cases.

An example does not compare with a good statistical analysis.

Per the constitution of the United States,  the governor of each state has the power not Trump.  Gavin Newsom of California did a great job in managing the crisis while the clowns in New York get an F.

So Trump is simultaneously the greatest President ever who has done a fantastic job in three years yet he's completely unable to resolve the (ongoing) national fiasco when faced with his first real test? So please answer the question I've asked several of you but have yet to receive a response.

A bit like saying you didnt really die from covid because you would have died of old age in 10 years anyway.

 

He died from the virus because thats what killed him. If it wasnt for the virus he would have died later from other ailments.
