rooster59
PM supports court-sanctioned rehabilitation programme for THAI Beleaguered Thai Airways International is likely to file for bankruptcy protection and have to enter a court sanctioned restructuring and rehabilitation process, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said today. Mr. Anutin, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob and Deputy Transport Minister Thaworn Senneam met Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for about half an hour today to discuss the heavily indebted national airline’s immediate future. Mr. Anutin said that the Prime Minister agreed that the plan offers the best chance of salvaging the national flag carrier, which is regarded as “the face of Thailand”, but he admitted that an injection of taxpayer’s money, or even allowing the Finance Ministry to guarantee a 50 billion baht loan, being sought by THAI, might be difficult. ThailandRyan
Why is the Public Health official commenting on something outside of his supposed wheel house. Oh yeah, he just needs to hear himself spout out his opinions as always....Why not let the Prime Minister speak for himself. To many mouth pieces in this government....reminds me of the Talking Heads....

There are some military people (of cour$e) who are so bad at their job they’re resigned to opening car doors. And there’s one guy who also sits on the boards of banks and oil companies, etc. A busy man indeed. The whole thing is an absolute mess. But fear not, Prayut will fix this.

Rather than acting decisively, senior politicians get underlings to float a solution to a sensitive issue in the press to judge public opinion. In the meantime, Rome can burn for all they care !!! I would have to agree with what you see. Boards stacked, and many folks with so many added on money jobs they do nothing for.....just being a member receives a pay out, one way to go from a zero to a billionaire over night, just by having friends.

yellowboat
The five or so A380's are part of the problem industry wide. They are not cost effective unless full for long flights. Loaning to a business with leadership that is certain to fail is a waste of time. Even good, well managed carriers are having a tough time. THAI is going to pull the proverbial rabbit out of a hat? Fortune tellers will have to work overtime.

Popular Post natway09
There is not much wrong with Thai Airways in so many ways. They have the almost perfect location on the map to do so. Have a look at Air NZ way down the end of nowhere made a profit 3 years in a row. It is not about the operation itself but the stupidity of the people running it & I do not mean the staff. SA decided to operate a direct flight to NY. So not to loose face Thai Directors had to do it too. 6 or 7 now defunct A340's & a huge list of Thai people in Government who gorged themselves on free flights spelt the death throws of an "experiment that Thai should have just fed to SA & stayed out of it. The A380 purchases could have worked even knowing that 70% of their destinations could not handle the aircraft. But from the outset not only did they configure the aircraft wrongly (the freebie brigade in mind again) but they knew that they needed an 80% loading in cattle class, so did they get aggressive & ensure that their pricing was more than competitive in a market where they knew people would use it if "the price was right ? NO. Silly because they had a ready made market as people coming to Thailand anyway. They also continued to fly oversize planes to many of their smaller markets "just because they could" The "Thai Smile" was about the most sensible thing they did to get rid of these routes finally. Thai has always been at the beck & call of just about every Govt Dept when it comes to business travel. I have said before if 10 members of the Foreign Office travel (for example) they should get billed & pay within 60 days Freebies, This is still based on the old rules that just about all airlines got rid of years ago. I travelled to Auckand 4 years ago & sat beside a delightful Thai lady who got a freebie because she was an Aunty of a sales clerk.. Plane Purchase in this day & age (before Covid 19 of course)) is just ridiculous, you lease, Not BUY. Reason. If you have no use for the plane the leasing Co will help you dispose of it. Staff. Just too many numbers ......... Have to reduce by 20% Fuel: Over the years far too many shady deals on "futures buying" There would be 100 Thais out there that are very wealthy from the "slipstream" Purchasing ditto as fuel, but maybe more so, I have no idea what will evolve now nor does anybody else as a result of this terrible Covid 19 but if things get fairly well back to normal in 18 months Thai has a future but must be managed by "an experienced Expat "(Buddha forbid) & the board must give him a free reign for 3 years. So in saying that am I saying Thai is doomed ? The Directors should hang their heads in shame as they came & went just to make some money with no real interest in the operation albiet sanctioned by a Government who used it to their own ends. So we need a new board as well who are committed to success not from the Armed Services who only know how to spend taxpayers money 3

DJ54
Virtually all airlines are in financial trouble. Hopefully they can pull out of it. It trickles down to suppliers which a good percentage will go out of business. The Ghost flights flying empty or near empty to keep their slots at airports. Read yesterday the shortest Ghost flight recently was 41 km.... this is a huge waste of money. The airlines have asked for releif on slots but don’t know how that turned out.
