Work permit for Category O dependent visa

Hi all,

 

i am Indian national working on valid Non B and work permit. My wife also an Indian national, is here on category O dependent visa granted on my behalf.

 

She has got a job few days ago and her company wants to apply Non B and work permit for her.

 

i have heard from someone(seems not legitimate) that she doesn’t need to apply for Non B. Instead she can get work permit on her category O visa.

 

Someone else also told us that first  she needs to cancel O and then  go back to home country with documents  to get Non B before getting work permit here.

 

please help us with your valuable advice on this.

The problem is that the work permit office will not accept an application for a person on an extension based upon being a family member that is on an extension of stay.

It is not possible to change non immigrant visa categories without leaving the country.

It it was possible to get a work permit the extension could be changed to one for working.
