Just a few hours drive south of Bangkok, Hua Hin was one of Thailand’s first holiday destinations.

Hua Hin’s laid back atmosphere makes it a popular choice among couples, young families and retirees. But don’t let the serene pace of life fool you into thinking that Hua Hin is lacking in things to do - the resort has all but shaken off its sleepy seaside image.

Things to do:

 

1. The beaches

While other beaches in Thailand may be all about the parties and nightlife, Hua Hin is much more quiet and relaxed and perhaps all the better for it. The main beach at Hua Hin stretches along four kilometers and offers no shortage in beach deckchairs and umbrellas, while local vendors offering great tasting food and refreshments are never far away. 

 

The beach is great for swimming and generally safe for kids under adult supervision. Kitesurfing and banana boat rides are available for those with an adventurous streak.

 

South of Hua Hin beach is neighbouring Khao Takiab beach and Suan Son beach which are every bit as good as Hua Hin’s main beach.

 

 

2. Cicada market

The open air Cicada market is popular with both Thai and foreigners alike and is a hive of activity after sundown.

 

The market showcases handmade goods from local traders. You wont find the usual selection of DVDs and cheap sunglasses here, instead you’ll be met with a wide array of arts, crafts, homeware, paintings, sculptures and other items. There is also a huge outdoor food court, live music, street performers, dance groups and theatrical performances most weekends.

3. Tamarind night market

Located next to and within walking distance to Cicada market, Tamarind market has quickly established itself as one of the most popular places to visit in the evening in Hua Hin.

 

With a wide selection of food to choose from, you’ll find scores of stalls serving local and international dishes, from fresh seafood and spicy som tam to pizza and BBQ ribs at very reasonable prices. There’s live music and a great atmosphere guaranteed. Car parking is available from just 50 baht per vehicle.

4. Vana Nava Waterpark

Visitors to Hua Hin might be spoiled for choice for beaches, but that doesn’t mean you should miss out on Hua Hin’s premier waterpark.

 

Vana Nava Hua Hin is Asia’s first Water Jungle and the first ecological community water park in Thailand. Combining state of the art technology and modern facilities there are more than 20 different attractions to choose from. 

 

Vana Nava features the longest waterslide in Thailand and the tallest man made waterfall in Asia. There is also a water adventure playground suitable for toddlers and small children, a large wave area, and a poolside bar for the grown ups!

5. Phraya Nakhon Cave

The spectacular Phraya Nakhon Cave is like no other landmark in all of Thailand. The ornate green and gold pavilion is hidden inside a cave which you’ll need to trek to in order to reach it. While challenging for some, you’ll realise every step was worthwhile once you get inside.

 

Time it right and you’ll be rewarded with a stunning scene as the pavilion is illuminated from the natural sunlight above. Located in Sam Roi Yot National Park, it’s a 45 minute drive south from Hua Hin followed by a 30 minute trek up a mountain. Alternatively, the cave can be accessed by longtail boat for around 200 baht.

 

6. Seenspace

Seenspace might be Thailand’s first beachside mall, but more closely resembles a mixture of the popular beach clubs you’d find in Bali or Marbella alongside quaint shopping outlets, restaurants and bars. 

 

Hobs which is located in Seenspace has arguably the best selection of imported beers in all of Hua Hin.

 

The perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon chilling next to the beachfront pool, sipping on cocktails while enjoying the great selection of food on offer.

7. Golf

Hua Hin is one of Thailand’s top golf destinations and is home to a number of championship courses. 

 

All courses in Hua Hin are blessed with spectacular scenery and the Thai climate makes it possible to play almost all year round. 

 

In 2019, Hua Hin was awarded Golf Destination of the Year for Asia by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators, the second time the resort had won the award since 2014.

 

 

8. Monsoon Valley Vineyard

Experience a day out in Thai wine country.

 

Located amongst tranquil Thai countryside, the Monsoon Valley Vineyard is known for its award winning wines. The vineyard offers you the chance to learn about the winemaking process and taste many of the wines produced at the vineyard. 

 

There is also an excellent restaurant serving up delicious cuisine while you take in the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding area.
