A sum of Bt182.2 million has been approved by the committee of professional sport to help athletes and related persons involved in 13 sports disciplines in Thailand affected by the Covid-19 crisis.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisulee Traisoranakul said on Wednesday (April 20) that the committee had already sent the list of athletes and sport personnel, who have been registered in line with the professional sport act, to the Commerce Ministry for consideration.

Each sport association or club will receive up to Bt500,000, and each athlete will receive Bt15,000. The budget is expected to be disbursed by June, she added.

Meanwhile, the boxing committee has approved financial assistance totalling Bt79.15 million to help sport personnel involved in boxing such as boxers aged 15 and older, coaches, referees, boxing camp leaders, boxers’ managers, tournament organisers and stadium masters.

Wonder how many of these athletes will be declared as farmers ?

More corruption cash ????

That's it, get your priorities right.  Sport (of any kind) should be way down the list of causes to throw money at - 4.5 Million quid ?  I could, but won't, (only a little then), rant about football in particular.  Suffice it to say - what is the only reason that elite football around the globe is being rushed back to center stage?  Money!!  2 metre distancing for everyone else, proper football? - full-on contact, blood, sweat, tears, and saliva all over the place - a virus protective environment?  The Thai version of throwing money at something that is way down the list of most peoples priorities in the present crisis, is questionable at least.
