Thai road rage: Police slap two charges on Fortuner driver who drew a gun on Grab Food delivery guy

Police in Chonburi have charged a man with assault and illegally having a gun in public after a road rage incident was filmed in Muang district.

The footage showed a Toyota Fortuner driver pull out a gun and threaten a Grad Food delivery motorcyclist before a scuffle developed.

Someone intervened and there was no shooting and the protagonists went their separate ways.

This had followed a minor traffic incident in which one of the vehicles had pulled in front of the other.

The Grab guy went straight to the Don Hua Lor police and filed a complaint with Pol Capt Decha Dindaen.

The Fortuner driver - aged about 40 - soon gave himself up and faces the two charges, station chief Pol Col Phatsakorn Thunsap told Daily News.

Investigations are underway to determine whether to upgrade the assault charge to attempted murder in the light of the footage becoming known.

The suspect was granted bail.

Pol Col Phatsakorn urged the motoring public to be calm and exhibit kindness and good sense when driving.

Good advice! Just pointless, because most Thais driving already refrain from this kind of behaviour. For all the ones that does it falls for deaf ears. As a police officer with experience he should know that.

Lesson learned. If you are ever assaulted, make sure that the episode is filmed. Then there is a chance the perpetrator will get punished.

For assault and having a gun in public he would probably get away with an apology.

Leave you guns at home son, don't take your guns to town.

Wunder if cops let him have the firearm back?

While teaching my daughter to drive I always point out how many Fortuner drivers are bad, selfish pr*cks.

I put it down to 'new money' because they're the sort of people who buy and drive these things. And if it's a middle-aged Thai guy in one, then I feel that the chances of them doing something dangerous and selfish multiplies.

The Grab Food people are all maniacs. I doubt if any of them have valid insurance, and almost as many will have a drivers licence. OK, it's better for these young men to be doing this than sitting idle and thinking how to break into your house, but they're out of control in Pattaya.

Like the "special" employee at Chang Wattana who drew a gun on a cab driver who honked at him.  Caught on video, then the entire episode simply disappears never to be heard of again.  The guy was never jailed that's for sure.

<Yawn>  Another gun assault that will be disappeared after a 'news cycle.'

The Thai government has ordered everyone to stay at least 2 metres apart.

Fortuner Drivers ...

In Phuket a Fortuner is the Russians weapon of choice

Fortuner drivers are all pr****. They think because they can afford a glorified truck they own the road.

Ford Ranger is the new lethal weapon.

We most forgive them....for they know not what they do.

If someone is too stupid to know the rules of traffic it is not advisable to get upset with them.

Stupidity equals innocence.

That's 2 fines of 500 baht plus a wai...sorted

' There was no shooting and the protagonists went their seperate ways .' So maybe ' ugrade the assault charge to attempted murder .'     OK.

Reminds me of the old joke. 'What's the difference between a Fortuner and a Hedgehog?" 'The Fortuner has its pricks on the inside'.

They do seem to have a perception of entitlement- red plates just adds to the experience.

There's a good slice of fantasy for you!

How can it be attempted murder if he didn't fire the gun?

You are not supposed to be carrying a gun in Thailand even if the gun is legal. You can carry it (ammoless) to a shooting range or to a new home....it's not supposed to be a road rage weapon in the event you have a crash.

A bit ironic when a Pattaya cop urges kindness and good sense; all you pensioners beware.
