The burnt corpses of a grandmother and grandson, holding each other, were found in the wreckage of their home in the complex of Pathum Thani’s Wat Bang Duea School.

The school caught fire at 10 am on Sunday (June 7) and since the house was made of wood, it was quickly ablaze.

It took firefighters nearly half an hour to bring the blaze under control and later the bodies of Jintana, 51, and her eight-year-old grandson were found in the ruins.

Jintana’s son, Pattheya Khonthai, 25, said he was on the ground floor, while his mother and nephew were upstairs when the fire started. He said his mother called him to say they needed help before the signal was lost. He said he didn’t realise the building had caught fire until it was too late.

The flames also destroyed the school building and police are investigating.
