A plucky water monitor - known as Tua Ngern Tua Thong (the silver and gold creature) when Thais are being polite - was filmed taking a Sunday stroll in downtown Bangkok at the always busy Victory Monument.

This creature did not seem to have a care in the world as motorcycles revved to go at the lights.

The footage was posted yesterday on Facebook by Pomparazzi C. Chaikanarakul.

Thaivisa notes that the creatures, mostly referred to with foul swear words, are often seen in the capital's parks and waterways but are less frequently seen on the roads.

Especially in a place like Victory Monument!

Surely "hia" is only a swear word when applied to humans, like calling somebody a rat in English. Otherwise, it's the normal word for the animal.
