The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) today extended its fare discount on the MRT Purple Line between Tao Poon and Bang Yai for another three months. The low-fare period had been due to expire on June 30.

MRTA board chairman Sarawut Songsivilai said the board had agreed the period should be extended to September 30.

The move follows Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob’s instructionon June 10 that the MRTA and the SRT Electrified Train Co Ltd (SRTET), which operates the Airport Rail Link, consider extending their low fare period beyond the end of this month.

Last December, the Purple Line cut its fares from Bt14-Bt42 to Bt14-Bt20 per trip to ease people’s financial burdens during the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Airport Rail Link reduced fares between Phya Thai and Suvarnabhumi Airport last March, with the offer set to expire on June 28.
