Well as Sweden was one of the first countries to drop the old 1960s road safety misconceptions, and now has one of the lowest casualty rates in the world I would have thought you knew the solution

If you are referring the theory of evolution, then through natural selection, deaths on the road presumably would be progressively be eliminated. As there is no sign of this happening then your theory is unsustainable and falls flat.

There is not such a thing as an inactive post in the Thai police, they are all inactive, from the generals with their fancy ranks and uniforms covered in bling, to the officers standing at the school gates watching the underage children riding past on their parents motorbikes.

No such thing, I believe

It's not only the "zero ability" to drive a vehicle due to no real schools and no real driver tests, there is another dimension to it too. Thais can be extremely aggressive. And when sitting in a car they use that car as a weapon (many times they even have a gun inside the car and shoot you if you are unlucky). Overtake a Thai or blow the horn, he will get immediately super angry and will chase or shoot you to give revenge... childish idiot behaviour...  This high blood behaviour maybe combined with alcohol or drugs makes the streets really dangerous.

 

Then add the bad road conditions and the bad emergency reponse to it.

 

In Europe an aggressivd driver loses license, car and freedom. Law enforcement generally works to safeguard other from aggressive idiots on the roads...in Thailand they take him to the police station where he cries with tears in his eyes "I am vely solly..." and doon he can buy himself out of jail no matter how many he has killed...

World averae for alcool related road deaths is about 22%. Thailand's estimates range from 25 to 40 at certain times of year - so certainly at least 60% of accidents are NOT caused be "beer"

With Thai peoples riding 1,2,3,4 UP no helmets, that is alive and well on Koh Samui. Young lunitics blasting down the main road on the wrong side of the road doing 80 to 100kph in a 50 zone NO HELMET! They are your people potentially puting themselves in harms way and you do not give a damn to enforce the road rules, what do you expect.

Funny isn't it. We are destroying the Thai economy to save the lives of less than 60 people, but 6000 have already died on the roads and no one is calling for the abolition of cars. Think about it. Silly, and yet we get yelled at if we don't wear face masks. Hypocrisy in fine form in Thailand. And almost everywhere else for that matter. Locking down economies really is stupid.

How unbelievable that the draconian measures taken to protect the public against Covid-19, which were effective -- but the massively greater road deaths are just . . . ignored!

maybe one day, just maybe, someone may realise that it would help if the Thais actually learned to drive/ride, by making lessons compulsory, and having tests and regulations similare to the real world

Covid19 57 in 3 month and close the country down. 

Road toll 600 in one month.

At 6000 deaths for half of the year the average daily total is about 32 deaths per day, which is about half of the normal average of about 60 dead per day (as you mentioned).

 

I awaiting some true political genius to claim success in fighting the road deaths as the numbers have halved !!!!

The level of discussion on this topic is mind-bogglingly stultifying and mindless as ever....

Yet I'm told that there's more cameras on Beach road pattaya than enough.

19 pedestrian crossings.

Enough recognition cameras to monitor every violation and book them if they wanted to do so.

Electronic tickets.
