The operator of Bangkok’s Blue and Purple MRT lines has handed out over 100,000 face masks along with daily necessities, to relieve the impact of Covid-19 and ensure safety on its services.

Sombat Kitjalaksana, managing director of Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM), said the move was part of its "Healthy Journey with BEM" project to ease suffering amid the virus crisis.

"We delivered over 100,000 face masks and consumer goods to government and private authorities nearby MRT Blue and Purple Lines, such as district offices, schools, hospitals, and citizens," he said. "This activity will be organised until August this year."

The BEM has also hired 100 part-time employees to clean surfaces inside stations and trains, to create confidence among commuters using MRT trains.
