BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand on Wednesday reported one new coronavirus case detected in someone returning from abroad, marking 30 days without local transmission, a senior official said.

The new case was a Thai national returning from the Philippines and was in quarantine, said Taweesin Wisanuyothin, spokesman for the government's Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration.

Thailand has so far recorded 58 deaths related to COVID-19 among 3,157 infections, of which 3,026 patients have recovered.

One more person in state quarantine has tested positive for Covid-19 over a 24-hour period, the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Wednesday (June 24).

Thailand has passed 30 days without domestic cases, CCSA spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin said.

The 31-year-old male restaurant employee had returned from the Philippines and was asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, three more patients recovered fully and returned home.

As of June 24, the total number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 3,157 (2,444 domestic cases and 220 found in state quarantine) -- 73 are under treatment, 3,026 have recovered and been discharged, and there have been 58 deaths.

Globally, the total number of confirmed cases reached 9.3 million, up by 165,000 on Tuesday, of whom 4.8 million have recovered while deaths have exceeded 470,000.

Dr Taweesin asked everyone to remain cautious since the number of cases in the world and neighbouring countries are still high.

I was talking to 2 chula young healthy doctors yesterday and asked them when they would stop wearing masks in public

they told me when there is a vaccine.....

the fear is strong here....

Back in April Chula had 150+ Covid19 patients with about 10 on ventilators. Now they have 0 (zero!) Patients.

Despite the lack of testing and at times suspicious low official numbers, Thailand is pretty much Covid free.

The future might look very different as per the post today:

"Dr Prasit said a second wave appears to be unavoidable without lockdown measures, in the absence of herd immunity."
