Justice minister: 450 million baht in drugs/ drugs' assets seized in last two months

Thailand's justice minister reported that 450 million baht in drugs and drugs related assets were seized by the authorities in May and June. 

 

Millions of Ya Ba pills, hundreds of kilos of crystal meth and 420 kilos of marijuana was among seizures.

 

Nearly two dozen drug rings and more than a thousand suspects were busted.

 

Bank accounts showing 12 billion baht in transactions were seized. 

 

Reports suggest that drug use in Thailand is on the rise. 

 

Gangs are increasingly using things like gold and fuel to barter for drugs to hide their tracks. 

 

Next year seizures are expected to top 5 billion baht as Thailand steps up its anti-narcotics effort, said justice minister Somsak Thepsuthin.

So why have we not seen any high profile arrests of influential people with all this money to fund the drugs trade?

All we seem to see are the delivery drivers arrested?

5 billion baht eh?  From all narcotics?  Perhaps cannabis legalization (and subsequent taxation) would be even more lucrative.
