Have you seen the reports of people flocking to Bournemouth beach yesterday et al, all whilst the rate of infection and death is quite high and nobody was wearing a mask and nobody seemed to give a  damn. If the UK wants to kick start it's economy by allowing foreign holidays etc under those conditions, I'm 100% behind Thailand's decision to remain closed and I hope Brits are never allowed back here, it's shameful behaviour. signed, a Brit.

once they stop the brits coming in they,ll round up the ones already there and kick them out.

Thailand in my 20 years part-time experience, was maybe the n°1 country for tourism business. Including long stays. Expats, etc.

Easy visa, easy condo and motorcycle rental (just try to do a monthly rental in almost any other non-asian country... pain in the ass), no security issue (again compare to ANY western country), trust in very most cases, good prices, politness, not noisy (like Vietnam with their crazy non-stop klaxon), good massages, good accommodation quality, transports, etc. etc.

For 40 years i would say for Thailand. Good business for everybody. Land of good business and easy living.

LOS...T ?

Since maybe 5 years, or 10, it's been going down and down. Why ?

Many big mistakes. Farang xenophobia (and last the Anutin stupid words was something nobody will forget since it's official). All-in on Chineese that was a huge mistake from the start (eggs in a basket...). Make the expats stay an administrative nightmare, many left. Lottery detention at airport. Military rules in social life. Etc.

I wish they could change this direction and put back what was an enormous and special value here.

But like the driving, i think it takes a very long time here to admit a wrong direction. Driving mistakes, causing 7000 deaths and 1/2 million injured in 6 months, is easy to fix, very easy, IF someday they can admit their mistakes and learn the basics. Looks like they can't and even do worse...

Covid world panic : could have been a good time to rethink the tourism business witch was going wrong way. But no, looks like they insist. Looking for high net worth tourists ? With a ton a requirements ? Insurance here, travel bubble there, quarantine on arrival... arf ! With farang xenophobia ? Lol... And again all-in on Chineese, same mistake...

We will see but it could take a while or even never come back. Pride looks more important than business maybe. Or some don't care anymore about general business ; having some private interest at high level... Packs of Chineese. Medical tourism. High net-worth tourists. Does not look like Thaïs lifes matters maybe.

This Is Thailand... TIT. For TAT.

Whatever, the entire world is nuts. Sad Thailand is no more exception (globally speaking for what was a "special" country.

hit it square on the head,i know i could have just given a thank you but feel your post deserves to be read by everyone.

We're all frustrated.

We're all angry that they appear that our own country appears to being ignored, at the expense of those we blame for the virus.

But get on with it. Apart from a small minority online who would love to go back, the general public are not going to be travelling in mass to Thailand anytime soon. The likelyhood of Chinese citizens flowing back into Thailand on MASS is utterly ridiculous, and the Chinese themselves won't allow it.

You also have to remember Thailand seems attractive rite now, because it has very little of the virus in the country by some miracle. However, as soon as they open up, be it South Korea, Japan, or China the virus will return. And when you have cases in Thailand, it suddenly won't seem an attractive proposition anymore. There will be no shiny European free health care there if you do come down with the virus.

However, It's simply not possible for any country to close it's borders. For all New Zealand's bluster they have closed their borders, eventually they will have to open up and the virus will return. It will be the same for South Korea who are about to let thousands of US troops enter their borders (they have no choice). You keep your borders closed and you are heading towards a Soviet era style lockdown. The population will demand to leave - be it holiday, meet family abroad, international business will suffer, investment will fall and the economy will cripple. When economies cripple the population tend to push back.

European countries have come to the conclusion it is impossible to eradicate the virus. They will allow regional lockdowns where the virus is out of control. But the mantra to impossible attempting to eradicate the virus will wreck economies to the point the virus will do more harm than the virus. The UK for example had a horrendous 25% fall in GDP in one month ! The whole of the Eurozone is heading for a recession.

Countries dependent on tourism are going to take a horrendous hit. Thailand will face it during the high season if tourism numbers remain low.

I keep saying over and over - that it's vital countries increase their testing, testing at borders, testing everywhere and anywhere (is Thailand doing anything to increase it's labarotary testing?). Test passengers at arrival or during a quarantine period away from the mainland. Anything innovative.

It's very frustrating for everyone! But way too much emotional nonense. We on this forum love Thailand and would love to go back, and hopefully that is soon.

another good post,it would appear the relaxing of the lockdowns are premature and are going to lead to a massive resurgence of the virus, however whats the options?the world simply cannot afford to stay locked down much longer, with the absence of a vaccine is the herd immunity the only option.

Herd immunity doesn't work . Already is known that you only got antibodies for 2-3 months . That the world cannot afford staying locked is true , but there are ways in the middle which are workable . In several countries , they try to find outbreaks through sewage water , since they found it a very fast technique to locate early infections . Facemasks , social distancing , testing , partial lockdowns ( certain part of city ) , tracking , ... all helping to opening as much as possible , while still trying to contain control over the virus . Every day is 1 more day closer to solutions ( vaccine or medication ) , or natural weakening of the virus .

No silly boy! The EU isn't going to let Americans in, do you think they'll round up the ones who are already there and deport them! This is about nationals in their home country who are potentially contagious, an attack of contagion, it's not an attack on nationalities.

Not true. Research is still ongoing on the matter. But the most conclusive research has suggested once you develop antibodies you won't get the virus again. Unless that is the virus mutates differently. Of course you get those big headlines saying you can still catch the virus again. I'll be interested to know of any known cases of someone catching the virus twice (not the nonsense media nonsense about the guy from China catching it twice, when it turned out he hadn't fully recovered in the first place).

Most of the vaccines being developed, are using the mantra to create antibodies in your system.

You have to remember immigration works both ways. There will be an elite in Thailand, business people, middle class who will want to travel to the EU, America (eventually) be it business or pleasure.
