State of emergency extended until end of July

The state of emergency was extended for another month, until July 31, at Monday (June 29)’s meeting of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

The meeting, which was headed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, considered the fifth phase of lockdown easing, the state of emergency, and the reopening of Thailand’s border to foreigners.

The CCSA reportedly extended the state of emergency to aid the fifth-phase easing and the reopening of schools and colleges on July 1.

Businesses set to be reopened on July 1 include pubs, bars and entertainment venues.

Schools, entertainment venues all set to reopen from Wednesday

From July 1, shopping malls, schools and educational institutes will be able to operate as normal, while bars and entertainment venues will be allowed to reopen only if they possess a valid licence, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said today (June 29), after the committee approved the fifth phase of lockdown relaxation.

Bars, pubs and entertainment venues will be allowed to sell alcoholic beverages, but will have to shut shop at midnight.

These night venues are required to ensure customers are seated at least a metre apart, with tables separated by a two-metre space and 1.5-metre-high partitions. Patrons are not allowed to share tables with strangers while servers must wear masks at all times. Furthermore, frequently touched areas, including toilets, must be cleaned regularly, smoking areas clearly marked and the venues properly ventilated.

Each business must register with the ThaiChana platform before reopening.

Entertainment venues are not allowed to launch any promotions just yet as these will trigger crowds. These places must screen each customer, provide hand-sanitising gel, limit customers to five per table, not serve alcoholic beverages in shared containers, and install CCTVs, recordings of which should not be deleted for a month so officers can check the situation periodically. Also, singing and dancing are strictly prohibited.

Operators of internet cafes and gaming centres must divide their customers into three groups:

• Those younger than 15 can use the service from 2pm to 8pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 8pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

• Those aged between 15 and 18 can use the service from 2pm to 10pm on weekdays and 10am to 10pm on weekends.

• Those aged above 18 can use the service at any time.

Internet cafes and gaming centres must provide a 4-square-metre area for each customer and ensure they check in via the ThaiChana platform. Users will be allowed to stay for no more than two hours each time, which will include 15 minutes for cleaning. Operators of these places are also required to install CCTVs and must save a month’s recording.

Meanwhile, massage parlours and spas holding valid licences will be allowed to reopen, though all customers have to check in using the ThaiChana platform and are required to wear a mask at all times, except during a bath.

Spas and massage parlours are required to limit the number of customers and have their masseurs/masseuses and other employees checked frequently.

I am guessing you have not read the 22 rules?

  • Not so sure about that. Quite a few I know are used to drinking at home now with friends and seeing the money they save, also the 22 rule thing doesn't apply in your house.

Any of the big bars and nightclubs and Go-Go's that attempt to enforce all 22 of those rules won't be open for two weeks before they re close.

Yeah, what a surprise. Opening up pubs if you have 20,000 new cases a day....well done US !

The "number of cases" is irrelevant.  The only thing that matters, is you help those few who are actually at-risk from this virus, to avoid contact with others - unless they want to take the chance.  Why mess with everyone else's lives?

The rules are not stupid. Only the people that are against them.

No one is forcing anyone to go to bars - or to go out at all.  One can always choose to stay home, order food-delivery, sterlize the boxes upon arrival, etc.

Why do you need the bars so much? I have been living here for very long and the only people I saw hanging around at bars were those that were not able to find any other sources of entertainment. Poor people in my eyes.

Lol - open for July 1, 2, 3. Close at midnite on the 3rd (Friday), reopen on Monday afternoon. Tuesday (the 7th) is a holiday as well so expect lots of drunks on the road Tuesday morning ! And Wednesday morning for that matter.

(Remembering that the bars have to close at midnite anyways as a part of the "22 rules".)

So they can open for 3 days, with those 22 rules in place before having to shut again for a Buddhist holiday.

Must be great being a bar owner over here, I might have to go buy one.

Something decide by the government.

Sensible decision & as long as the Government ensures the borders remain closed for entry except

through the normal quarantine channels the bar customers have all been here in internal quarantine for 3 months anyway.

Main concern for bar owners is will they get enough "lcal" customers that are prepared to

accept at least some of these restrictions to have a drink with their buddies ?

No dancin, no singin, no nothin, and everythin before midnight. Same rules as my apartment.

my favourite place would have to buy up the premises either side to enforce some of those stupid 22 rules.

And the majority of the customers only drink out of bottles. We are bikers, not pooftas who like a straw or ice in their beer.

It says "shared containers" A bottle is less shared than a glass. Maybe they mean those shared draft dispensers.

"...those few who are actually at risk..."? How would you define those few? Last time I looked, everyone seemed at risk; old folk, middle-aged folk, children, professional athletes, college students, doctors, nurses, and the list goes on! And, just using the number of admitted infections in the US, it seems approximately 11% of the resolved cases end in death...that's one person in nine!
