I am guessing you have not read the 22 rules?

  • Not so sure about that. Quite a few I know are used to drinking at home now with friends and seeing the money they save, also the 22 rule thing doesn't apply in your house.

Any of the big bars and nightclubs and Go-Go's that attempt to enforce all 22 of those rules won't be open for two weeks before they re close.

Remind me how long the bars stayed open in Florida, Texas and LA before they had to be closed again due to another spike in C19?

Difference is that Thailand has had no cases for 30 odd days, ChonBuri twice as long.

I have one question. Servers must wear masks. Why when the customers don't?

Furthermore  Why the bloody hell do we need to wear masks anyway?

The news states that Thailand has not had a locally transmitted case of covid 19 for more than 31 days {and counting}

Why do you need the bars so much? I have been living here for very long and the only people I saw hanging around at bars were those that were not able to find any other sources of entertainment. Poor people in my eyes.

Why do you need to criticize other peoples choices in life? If the only people you have seen hanging around bars are poor people, all I can add to that is you must hang around a slum

What is wrong with normal bars / cafes where the seating can be spaced .Surely even Thailand bar owners can manage that, Europe does. It’s not rocket science.

It is said that there is to be no singing in bars. So, does this mean that live music by house bands is prohibited?

With any luck yes. Lets have Yerrow Liver and Simply the best confined to the karaoke dustbin forever please

Wasnt there only 4 stages of easing when all this first started? Now we are on number 5 haha. I stand to be corrected of course

What was the fuss all about, at the end of the day?

There is enough open already in Bangkok to keep a guy busy 24/7. It started when massage was allowed to open.

I will be first in line at Crazy House. I am 100 meters from it in my hotel right now.

I was going to chain myself to the front door and go on a hunger strike until they opened but looks like I can save my energy for other things.

The thousands of farangs stuck here, and the thousands of expats on 1 year visas/ extensions.

Theres more expats stuck out of the country than in it i think.

All still hoping to get back in to their families and loved ones...

Same here, hanging out with old and new friends.

OK, the savings have been substantial, but more important, those of us who know each other have met many new people at our condo complex over the nearly four months. The camaraderie has grown exponentially, we have had respectful arguments and lots of fun, the evening poolside atmosphere has been relaxing and comfortable, generosity surprising, and the Thai wives/GFs have met new like-minded Thais and are having a ball. The only rule is that we clean up after ourselves, which everyone pitches in to do.

We've had occasional compare and contrast discussions and we like our "new normal" (sorry . . .) Well, except I do love my draft beer. So, I will go out but it will very likely be less often.

We've been over this before. There are a lot of people who, despite supposedly spending 65,000 baht a month (lol) are living in little studio (Thai style) rooms with maybe a crappy fridge and TV (and probably a puke-stained, <deleted>-smelling mattress).
Cable TV and "aircon" are "luxuries" that cut down on the amount of beer than can be bought with each pension cheque (or what's left of one after paying off 2-3 "ex's").

Going out to a local bar for a beer is the highlight of their (day/week). Seriously. I've seen people just like that. Back when I was living in South Pattaya. People living from whatever money they can scrounge from friends/relatives. Living in a tiny room with no aircon or fridge even.

The first apartment I rented in South Pattaya was like that. The guy before me ran out of people he could mooch money from and developed liver problems. Supposedly family and friends scrapped enough money to get him back to the UK so he could get back on the NHS.

When I went to move in, the first thing I did was throw the mattress in the trash and then clean the place (it stank). I went out and bought a new mattress, nice TV, aircon unit and a good fridge (very good as it turned out - still using it 16 years later and never a problem with it) ! The microwave actually died just 2 weeks ago so it was pretty good as well. (Still have the TV but it isn't used much and just sits in the bedroom these days.)

(I was renting the apartment because it was better than renting hotel rooms every trip and having to carry the same stuff (clothing for example) back and forth each time. It was 30,000 a year for rent and when I was there I had a better TV and fridge than most hotel rooms, as well as a hot plate, microwave and other gadgets.)

The local dive usually has aircon and probably cable sports channels to watch "footie" on.
As well as maybe the chance to flirt with something other than your "other" hand.

And if you've been around long enough, you know what the term "balloon chaser" means. Once the bars are open, there's the chance people will be celebrating birthdays and other events again (quietly of course) and where there's balloons, there's usually free food and maybe some free drinks (in some places, ringing the bell still buys everyone a round, including customers).
It's almost like Christmas - especially for those who may be fibbing a wee bit about how much they are actually getting by on over here.

No bars means making a trip to the local shop for a beer and then sitting on the steps or going back to your room to drink it.

Alone.

Im sure that there are many expats living like that,in thailand..

But...

Many of us can actually afford a very nice lifestyle..pattaya or elsewhere...

Yes indeed, some of note:-

Bars, pubs and entertainment venues will be allowed to sell alcoholic beverages, but will have to shut shop at midnight.

These night venues are required to ensure customers are seated at least a metre apart, with tables separated by a two-metre space and 1.5-metre-high partitions.

smoking areas clearly marked and the venues properly ventilated.

Each business must register with the ThaiChana platform before reopening.

Well it won't 're the Thais as many have had  no income since lockdon. My Thai friend doesn't even get the 5000 Baht government money. His wife the same.

The 5000 was just another dose of BS.

Same here, my wife and her sister got sweet f. a.

Add to that about 150 others in the village.

Be interesting to see how many people know someone who received it.

I live out of town....crazy house is the first place I visit when I visit, love the odour of the place mmmmmmmm!

There is no covid-19 in Thailand at all other than repatriated Thais who are quarantined.

Time to quit the magic shows or admit this is just a scam to manipulate control forever.

I know a lot of people who got the 5000. My wife has received the first 2 payments so far and most of the village she comes from have received their payments plus a lot of her friends here got it, and her mother even got the 15000 because she is a registered farmer, so it is not another dose of BS.

You all seem to be missing the point which is the extension of Prayuts powers. The rest is a smoke screen. I've been talking to let's say a few people in different  groups and they are all saying big trouble lies ahead. The extention of the state of emergency powers is to 'suppress' the students/dissidents that's it. This has been on the boil for 6 yrs and it's plain as day what's going on vis a vis the state of emergency. I fear for what lies ahead. Almost all Thais I talk to about this say people are going to die. On a broader scale 100% want the army out of power.

I'm a bit disappointed that they havent stated until what year the state of emergency will finish. End of July 2022 perhaps or is that being a bit too optimistic ?

It's been bubbling away for years with the discontent and I don't blame them. I've had many conversations with Thais in my local Thai bar and none of them are happy with the current regime.
