GENEVA (Reuters) - The COVID-19 pandemic is not even close to being over, World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a briefing on Monday.

Tedros noted that, six months after China first alerted the WHO to a novel respiratory infection, the grim milestones of 10 million confirmed infections and 500,000 deaths had been reached.

"Most people remain susceptible, the virus still has a lot of room to move," he said.

"We all want this to be over. We all want to get on with our lives. But the hard reality is that this is not even close to being over. Although many countries have made some progress globally, the pandemic is actually speeding up."

The World Health Organization issued a stark warning that the worst is yet to come from COVID-19 and that the pandemic is in fact accelerating around the world.

The head of the WHO's emergencies programme, Mike Ryan, told the briefing that tremendous progress had been made towards finding a safe and effective vaccine to prevent infection, but there was still no guarantee the effort would succeed.

In the meantime, countries could fight the spread of the disease by testing, isolating confirmed cases and tracking their contacts, he said. He singled out Japan, South Korea and Germany for their "comprehensive, sustained strategy" against the virus.

The WHO plans to convene a meeting this week to assess progress in research towards fighting the disease, Tedros said.

And this is the same WHO who believed China and said that there was no pandemic???

  • No, they didnt say they believed china. That was trump who said china was transparent.   What they did do was report what china told them.   So you believe its near over?

  • Well they did notify countries of the virus very early. Not their fault certain countries ignored it.

they're right (this time) as testing has confirmed even the most pox ridden country is only at about a 10% IR. Just read a new swine flu being studied that has health experts very concerned with its potential to mutate, just what we don't need..

A completely self serving statement, since they have to justify their existence ????

Depressing but true.

Massive worldwide increased infections, for a start. It is in all the news in case you hadn't seen/read or heard.

I think he watched the US figures this morning.

He said the same about Sweden before...

It should be over then came USA and change the trajectory.

Exactly, reassuring to know that this is the person that is in charge of driving this "agenda" :shock1:

Yes, as the SARS-CoV-2 turns out to be declining and even over in many countries already, and nowhere near the exponential killing as predicted, a new threat is needed. The world is full of viruses, pick one!

WHO is a china puppet

I agree WHO is a puppet, whether China is their controller - not so sure, look at who their biggest financial "supporter" is (Kill Bill Gates) then I think you will be getting nearer to finding out who really controls them!

No one is buying 'it's just a flu' any more. Daily cases are now rising sharply,  which gives you the exponential growth in cases. Even the number of daily cases is rising exponentially. Ruh-rho.

It was true.

At that time it was not a pandemic; just an epidemic.

I do not think its over ,but now i am afraid i take anything they say with a pinch of salt ,shame, they turned out to be  liars before.

Stop buying this scaremongering propaganda. Unless you are elderly, if you get the wretched virus (whatever it happens to be) you will likely suffer only mild symptoms and your chances of dying are negligible.

Buts it’s a Democratic Party hoax, cried Trump, praising China at that time.

Read “ The making of Trump”by Republican journalist David Cay Johnston  . Facts and figures . Amazing con man. Pulled of the Presidency !

I don't think Bill Gates has an official role in WHO to assert control and he is also not the largest donor.

people are dying in hospital parking lots in Brazil and India presently and that's the ones that are known. If you have decided it's 'just a bad cold' all the power to you but you'll never convince me of it.

A very egoist point of view !

If you get infected, you take the risk to infect older people around you (parents?...)

and the risk that they die from the virus you gave them !

A couple of facts you might wish to consider: 1 India's COVID death rate is one of the lowest in the world, at one per 100,000. 2 In Brazil, COVID fatalities so far are little more than half those for seasonal flu/pneumonia.

I didn't say COVID 19 was "just a bad cold".  I accept pandemic maven Dr Anthony Fauci's description that it's more akin to a severe flu pandemic.

These occur fairly regularly, and the outbreak in 1968 claimed 88,000 lives in my own homeland, without the government of the day feeling the need to lock anybody in their homes, trample our civil rights or trash the economy.

Moral of the story: Don't believe anything of significance you are told by the mass media or politicians, without first checking it out for yourself.

Mercifully, COVID 19 is relatively benign with regard to the the healthy young. So the emphasis from day one should have been on protecting our elderly - instead of which they have been routinely sacrificed on an enormous and unforgivable scale

Fauci is a politician? I didnt know. But i did my own research by listening to the experts in their field that have spent a lifetime of studying such things.

They are diammetrically opposed to what you say.
