Nigerian footballer arrested with Cambodian duo over drug trafficking

Featured Replies

Phnom Penh Municipal Court today began the trial involving a Nigerian man, his Cambodian wife and another Cambodian woman accused of attempting to transport nearly six kilograms of crystal methamphetamines to Vietnam. Deputy Prosecutor of Phnom Penh Municipal Court Say Nora identified the Nigerian man as Ndukwu Jonathan Chukwujekwu, 27, a former footballer playing in the Cambodian league. The two Cambodians were identified as 24-year-old Yun Sreynou, the wife of Chukwujekwu and her friend as 28-year-old Pok Sreyleak, who were both clothing vendors.

All three of the accused were living in Boeung Tumpon commune’s Sansom Kosal village. Mr Nora said the trio were charged with “drug possession, transport and trafficking”, under Article 40 of Law on Drug Control. If convicted, they face life sentences in prison.

Mr Nora said Sreyleak and Sreynou were arrested at around 11am on November 11 last year at a Vietnamese owned-bus-company located in Veal Vong commune, Prampei Makara district after they tried to send the drugs, concealed in two large music speakers, to Ho Chi Minh City.
