Police in Nong Khai in Thailand's north east are offering a 30,000 baht reward for the capture of a local man who escaped from the custody of the Ban Deua police on Monday.

Theeraphat Rangkai, 37, was being taken from the cells to an interview room when he made a run for it.

He got on a motorcycle being driven by his 19 year old girlfriend Busakorn and the pair fled. Four days later and they haven't been located.

Yesterday provincial police chief Pol Maj-Gen Surachai Sangkhaphat met with investigators and initiated a leaflet campaign to the public asking for information about the couple. Pictures of the pair were on the leaflets that mentioned a reward of 30,000 baht.

Theeraphat is from Lao Tang Kham sub-district of Phon Phisai district and is believed to still be in the area because he has no money.

DNA from drinks and trash collected in the woods there is being examined to see if it belonged to the couple.

Local community leaders such as kamnans and phu yai baan have been contacted to help in the search.

It was earlier reported that the suspect was being held after more than 2,000 Ya Ba pills were found in his possession.

The policeman in charge of the cells didn't bother to cuff him as the interview room was close by.

The suspect ran off shortly after being visited by his girlfriend.
