The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW) has asked businesses to respect the Songkran substitute holiday on July 27 by giving their employees the day off work.

The government recently designated Monday, July 27 as the first of three public holidays to compensate for the Songkran holiday, which was cancelled amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

DLPW director general Apinya Sujarittanan said employers have been asked to cooperate by announcing July 27 as a traditional holiday this year.

He said the government will announce the other two public holidays in compensation for Songkran at a later date.

True.. but songkran is a right for the Thais and they did not get it. So in a way this is just a shift of a holiday. But yes companies are struggling.

Set a precedent for the future ... replace holiday missed for a holiday...

what do companies that paid their employees while off for Covid do? Pay again...

Companies didn’t cause Covid now you want them to pay for a day off..

IMO not needed there’s been enough financial hardship with people suffering
