Prawit seeks crackdown on illegal migrants as they could spread Covid-19

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has asked the Army and other agencies to strictly monitor border crossings and industries for any illegal migrant workers as they could spread Covid-19 to Thais.

 

Prawit’s spokeman Lt-General Kongcheep Tantawanich said the deputy PM instructed the Internal Security Operations Command, the Army, police, and the Labour Ministry to deal with illegal migrant workers at borders areas as well as inside the country.

 

He also wanted migrant labourers in each industry to be checked.

 

Kongcheep said more illegal workers were found after the lockdown was lifted.

 

The Army has also been asked to coordinate with the border troops of neighbouring countries, especially Myanmar and Cambodia, to tackle the problem.

 

At the same time, police have been ordered to crack down on illegal migrants and networks transporting them from the borders to cities.

We've had illegals here since doomsday....how can they be spreading a disease if there have been no cases in the past 6 weeks? Surely we would have seen some evidence by now? What an idiot this man is. Surely the worst in the government.

Why is he commanding the army to do all this stuff. As far as I know the army is for fighting wars with other countries, not for dealing with illegal immigrants inside the country. Isn't there a civilian department that is supposed to do that. Say, the department of immigration.

I guess he is talking about new illegal immigrants, not the ones already inside Thailand.

It's not immigration's job to protect the borders, but this is done by border patrol police. But many checkpoints near borders are manned by the army.

Maybe they should crack down on the Military as they've been the biggest bunch of spreaders so far.

Got to crack down on something with no farangs to hunt down and old lardy chops may be interested to hunt down some new model patek philippe's in his spare time???? 

They could test them, but a test costs ฿3,000?  A non Thai's life is worth less than that to many Thai's.

How about hitting the employers who are using illegal migrants... get them out of the picture and illegal migrants would have nothing to come here for unless it was above board!

CV19 is just a poppy cock excuse for tightening the military screws down on the public. They already have a pretty good iron fist already.

What does he know about illegality?  This from a man making false declarations on his Wealth returns; someone whose wealth has increased by FIVE million a year for at least the last six years on a salary of less than ONE million!
