Hotels/guest Houses Close To Chula U?

A friend is attending a conference at Chula in July. THe conference organizers have some rather expensive hotels on their "preferred" list (i.e., Pathumwan Princess), plus the Chula dorms.

Can anyone recommend anything close to campus that is less extravagant? Say, under 1,000 baht/night?

Or, how good are the dorm rooms, eg. University Guest House?

Try the Reno Hotel. It's right near MBK which is right by the Chulalongkorn campus. Not the greatest hotel, but inexpensive and sounds like it'd do the job.
