The exact malls and schools were finally discovered by social media posters. "Rayong" and "Asoke" didn't narrow it down much.

The government knows the infected's whereabouts. I wonder how many have been notified via the supposed COVID tracker system ... After all, this was the stated purpose! ????????????????

There is one particular big mall in Asok that takes is themed after aviation/airports/countries.

Maybe he got confused.

I know i got confused going to Soi Cowboy.

Quite clearly the virus does discriminate. The population of the UK and Thailand are about the same. Thailand has 60 reported Covid deaths and the UK 45,000.

Immunity and tolerance to infection has always varied by tribe ,race, age sex and behaviour.  The science and data exists to analyse this. The refusal to acknowledge difference, discuss difference or use it constructively in policy planning and setting is an act of scientific and political cowardice especially in "woke" western countries.

Sham!! Again to go with two tiered fees.

Even in the pre-virus times some airlines were voicing their concerns regarding their crews neglecting and not abiding by the resting schedules.

I don't see a problem if it's now strictly enforced.

They should be resting instead of shopping non-stop.

That's not the problem, the problem is enforcing a 14 day quarantine on resting aircrew such that they cannot return to the airport to fly out.  Why don't people understand what 'quarantine' means, it means you  go to your place of quarantine and you stay there for the full 14 days.   Right now, aircrew arriving rest for their allotted time in allocated hotels ( not shopping) and then return to the airport, interacting with airport staff, immigration and their own ops staff and then fly out. Under the restrictions, if imposed, they would not be able to do this until after the 14 days, unless the exemption remains in place.  Now I hope readers understand the potential problem.

Think this through Thailand. If you stop aircrew from entering Thailand unless they go into quarantine, at a stroke, you will kill all international air traffic into the country. The vast majority of airlines, having arrived into Thailand, need to rest their flight crew for at least 24 to 36 hours  and then fly out. If they can't do this, they can't fly here, because the airlines will not 'double crew' just to save Thailand's ass.

So put them in a quarantine hotel near or inside the airport for 24 hours until they get back on the plane.

My thoughts too. Designate an airport hotel as a transit hotel with entry/exit guarded. Extra precautions for the hotel staff. Full use of the hotel facilities but no outside trips.

The brainwash machine from the government is doing his job and a lot of people just follow like buffalo's.

More people have to become poor and give back their welfare they build up over the years. If the economy and tourism who brings more then 20% of gdp not starts soon we face a situation as in Venezuela today or Argentina many years ago and is still today influencing the countries economy

In the UK they messed up and they don't want to wear masks (just look at the hotly debated topic recently opened). Maybe they should only let foreigners in who will wear a mask and deport those who get caught without. Mask wearing has helped but quite a lot still refuse it.

Sure there are Thais too but its their country, most Thais still wear masks and don't want the extra risk from non mask wearing foreigners.

Aircrew already do that. Cannot leave your hotel room.
Egyptian military seems to be exempt. Regular crew who bring in needed air cargo and take Thai exports werejust confined to hotel room. You want to block air freight by forcing crews into 14 day quarantine you better not want  any critical medical supplies or want to export anything.

Think about the list of requirements imposed by Thailand for foreigners. They have to get insurance, certificates, see a doctor 72 hrs before a flight. At the last minute Thailand now cancels foreigners travel. This has to be timely and costly. I’m sure this is going to upset those that made all the necessary arrangements to come and now loose not only their chance to come to Thailand, but all their time and costs are a loss.

I just watched a thing on a major Australian TV News Channel saying that the whole covid thing is an organized scaremongering scam, an opinion which I have held since day one. How can you call something a pandemic when it has only killed 0.00008% of the population over 6 months ? That is 0.00000044% of the population per day, hardly enough to cause the entire closure of the Thai tourist business ???? And for those who are incapable of understanding how numbers are being manipulated, the AVERAGE NORMAL number of deaths in the U.S. this year would be in the region of 1.5 million. People actually do die, it is part of life,s cycle. but it seems that almost everyone looks at this figure 130,000 and thinks O.M.G. ! Well folks, all it means is that respiratory tract diseases are here to stay and do cause people to die. Best advice for anyone ? .... Carry on as normal and steer well clear of people who are coughing ???? And that brings up another disaster, read a few days ago in Thailand,s main news rag that around 8,000 people just this year alone have died in Bangkok due to air pollution, and I remember reading 25 years ago that 75% of the city,s inhabitants suffered fro respiratory tract ailments. Why is it that so many people seem incapable of grouping disasters in order of significance ? Education ? Common sense ? (which ain,t so common, according to an old French philosopher). Overall, there is around 150 times the chance of dying from crossing the road as there is from covid ????

Covid19 is in the world, and is never going to disappear. How about the fifth wave, the tenth wave, and all the others after that ? It may be that Covid19 will be an annual event, like flu. Will Thailand remain in lockdown until a vaccine is found ?

Concern spread among Thais online that a second wave of infections and a new lockdown could follow in a country fast returning to normalcy after restrictions were eased.

Fast returning to normalcy???

1. OK so no more tourists?

2. No more foreigners regardless of diplomatic status etc unless subjected to a controlled full 14 day quarantine?

3. The above two points would logically mean no international passenger air travel to Thailand?

4. No incoming land based foreigners?

5. Essentially quarantining Thailand from the rest of the world until the rest of the world has eradicated COVID-19 completely?

Lets look at that. Its very very very unlikely that there will ever be an effective vaccine for COVID-19 even if a company comes up with one and says its effective. Lets say they do. There is no chance they can produce enough for everyone and most assuredly far less than a quarter of the planets population is going to consent or want to have one. I most certainly won't. If a vaccine miraculously appeared tomorrow how long do you think the world could get that out to the people who wanted it? One, two, three, four years? in the meantime COVID-19 will still be circulating and by next winter (in the places that have one) the next wave (whatever number it is on by then) just like the flu will hit and the cycle will repeat. Keep in mind viruses have a nasty habit of mutating to prevent their genocide rendering a vaccine based on the original strain largely ineffective.

So where will Thailand be in say just a years time with its borders effectively closed from the outside world? Tourism 9% of GDP? Really??? I think time will show this figure to be grossly incorrect as it has a massive knock on effect to other seemingly unrelated businesses and products. Nevertheless industry and all the logistics provided by commercial air travel and business men hampered or denied entry into Thailand is going to take a heavy toll which is going to derail the Thai economy. The same applies to any country who decides to seal itself off from the outside world regardless of its level of sophistication.

I guess though thats what is going to have to happen before it becomes apparent. The bottom line is we simply need to learn to live and co-exist with COVID-19 as I believe it is here to stay most certainly in the short term. If the world remains shuttered its going to take us that much longer to work out how to learn how to live with it and minimise its spread while living normal lives. Hiding at home is simply treading water until you decide you need to start swimming towards the shore before your run out of energy and drown. Sink or swim so to speak.

Well just goes to show unless your in supervised quarantine there will always be some dick that will break the rules.

Thailand have done a great job in controlling the virus up to this point,no use harping on about it now. The next thing is to not allow it to happen again. Hopefully no one will come down with the virus and things here will remain open. But it does put a big question mark on opening up the borders to tourists, even limited numbers and wealthy people. The virus does not discriminate, rich, poor, celebity LOL,diplomat. We all breath, bleed and <deleted>. A lot of business have reopened, employed staff and are trying to make the most out of a bad situation. You can move freely around Thailand and enjoy what it has to offer, maybe a few are missing the bars and the ladies. The last thing Thailand needs right now is another shutdown, keep the borders closed to tourists. If people fall into the allowed returnees, please keep them in quarantine until the have been cleared. I think this going to last a lot longer than people think so,this might be the norm for awhile.

Does this impact me,yes it does. My wife has lost her part time job,her brother and his misses have lost their jobs and moved away from Phuket. The brother is coming up to CM to live with us and try and find work up here as he has no money. My wife and I are looking after his son now,his mother is out of work too. This also makes it hard for my misses and her brother to send money to their parents so they can buy food and pay for electricity and stuff. Looks like I might be helping out there very soon.
No sick buffaloes,I already checked. But the brother is confident he will get work,he will do anything to survive. Just needs a hand until things improve. If they get a second wave and have to close up shop again,it will be a lot worse than the first wave. So as far as I am concerned, stuff the tourists, stuff the sexpats they can wait. Let Thailand get back to some sort of normality, let people try and get employment in other areas.

Anyway rant finished for the day.

all this  concern by you  farang about the poor Thai people.   so charming.    Thailand did fine before 40 million  tourists.  I have not read of anyone starving to death.  I have heard rumors of a few suicides.    I wish I was in Thailand  now.  but I'm doing ok here in USA.  I'm hunkered down  pretty good.   I bought N95 masks in early February  because I read real news and I returned via Shanghai Jan 21.

I think there is a different motive for you  expats.   I think your not enjoying drinking alone.

Not a big deal, but if you’re a general ‘in the west’ you’re not running the country! But even a PM would likely know little or nothing about aircrew rest days unless or until he was briefed by his spads or civil servants.

By allowing visitors to return you are pretty much granted to get some cases back. If they are getting this hysterical over one case, they just aren't in a position to open up.

Experts on CNN stated today that this virus will be with us for at least until 2022.. and that we will have to learn how to live with the virus. It won't disappear like Sars as it is not that lethal...

The world can not isolate for 2 years unless we accept a big decline in living standards for poor and middle class..
