Entertainment outlets can only reopen as restaurants

Prime Minister Hun Sen has reminded local authorities not to allow entertainment clubs and KTVs to reopen businesses if they have not been converted into restaurants. This follows the Health Ministry’s measures to stem any spread of COVID-19. Speaking in Prey Veng province yesterday, Mr Hun Sen said some KTV clubs in Phnom Penh have reopened their businesses without converting their premises into restaurants.

He cited a case where authorities checked on KTVs in Phnom Penh’s Chamkar Mon district and found they had reopened for business and secretly resumed operations without converting the outlets into restaurants. On Monday night, Chamkar Mon district authorities checked on two KTVs – J-KTV and LUSH-KTV – and found they had resumed business without following the Ministry of Health’s measure.

The authorities instructed the owners to stop operating until they adhere with the guideline and apply to the City Hall for permission to reopen for business. District governor Theng Sothol said later: “If the KTV owners do not follow the government’s measures, we will take action, including withdrawing the business licence.”
