The Cabinet today approved another three projects worth around Bt4 billion under the Bt400-billion budget earmarked to lift the battered economy.

The three projects were sent to the Cabinet by the committee which screens projects proposed by state agencies.

An Interior Ministry project for volunteers to take care of the elderly was approved with a budget of more than Bt1 billion. The year-long project will start this month and create 15,548 jobs.

The second project is the Interior Ministry's so-called integrated tambon development worth Bt2.7 billion, which aims to generate 14,510 jobs across the country. The project runs from next month to September next year.

The third is the Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation's plan to build firebreaks at a cost of Bt246 million. The project will run from this month to May next year and create 9,137 jobs.

The government had set aside a budget of Bt400 billion for projects run by state agencies to revive the economy. The Cabinet earlier approved five projects.

In a country where firestarting can be a bit of a past time that might prove to be half sensible .. the other two , who knows ..

As long as it's not run on the same basis as some school meal schemes, where those in charge skim absolutely everything they can off it, leaving insufficient funding for those it was intended for.

The cabinet approved them, but whos economy are they intended to improve?

Create 30,000 jobs....for a year... What happens then?

Only 400 million baht to create around 40 thousand jobs sounds like money well spent to fill brown envelopes.

What do you get with a so-called integrated tambon development for 2.7bn other than sub-committees ????

Bulk of this money will never reach the intended targets and two thirds of these 'jobs' will never happen.    BIL; who works in Local Government circles already rubbing his hands.    So much for Prayut resolving the Corruption problem !    Lol.

Bureaucratic heaven. It's a small price to pay to keep them in a job.

Perhaps he can buy some hand cream with his share of the 2.7bn Baht.

I believe the job losses are 6 million and counting.

Shouldn’t they be training the population in future job areas like IT?  Many jobs will be replaced through robotics anyway.

The USA is making the same mistake.
