New visa during amnesty

Another option is to pay for a Volunteer Visa. I asked Thai Visa Centre and the price for 3 months is 25.000 bahts, too much. One year is 35.000.

35k for one year sounds cheap to me.  I inquired about a volunteer visa and they were asking 55k for one year, but that included extensions.  They were just selling a visa with no actual volunteering required.  It sounded too risky—what if it’s a scam or if I am questioned about my volunteer work by a random immigration officer.   I decided to go the Ed visa route through a reputable language school.

From someone I know going this route, immigration is saying thank you.

Think about another 15 000 Baht coming their way

  • I believe this will only be possible with the help of an agent. However, in some regions, it might be allowed normally. Best is to initially discuss this with your local immigration office, preferably

How much?

Most schools will charge about 50k total for a year including all fees, tuition and extensions.

That is taking a risk , just be prepared to depart Thailand  very quickly or to be prepared to go on overstay .

If you are able to secure a long term visa, I would do it now, if you want to stay in Thailand long term.

If you are not bothered about staying in Thailand long term , just wait and see whether they extend the amnesty again and just leave if they dont

I read this in Khaosod English online this morning:

I was under the impression that Immigration doesn't make decisions at that level, it is up to the MFA when it relates to the Amnesty and we, the unwashed masses.

Immigration can always come up with reasons for not doing this and that. If extensions are necessary, of course immigration admits that. When they decided to go for the last "amnesty", the government incl MFA and Immigration maybe agreed about not going for another extension. 6 months of free extensions might be enough. And immigration doesn't have a clue where foreigners are at the moment when they don't have to do the 90 days reports, and they don't like that a bit.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has nothing to with immigration or anything related to it after you enter the country. The Interior Ministry handles immigration issues.

okay, so the Interior Ministry has the final say. I can understand Immigration being unhappy about the continuance of the amnesty, difficulty in keeping tabs on us and a drop in received revenue etc.

As i read somewhere, if everybody does nothing until september 25th, what can they do ? jail 300000 people ? no, they can just extend extension !

i will do nothing until last day as I am so sure that there will be another extension.

Anyone dreaming of further amnesty should read the first line of the cabinet’s notes on the subject:

“The Cabinet has approved as proposed by the Royal Thai Police as follows:

                   1. Let the Immigration Bureau issue an announcement Specify the period of time for foreigners to proceed according to the Immigration Act 2522 as well as other related laws by September 26, 2020.”

It seems clear all foreigners will be required to follow the normal immigration laws by September 26.
