Krabi: Hotel construction to blame for continued flooding in Koh Lanta

Channel 7 TV news reported that huge downpours in Koh Lanta resulted in run off from the hills causing heavy flooding along many 100s of meters of the Sala Dan to Ban Klong Nin Road.

The road has only recently been renovated to address the issue of flooding but problems persist.

The media said that leveling of land for the construction of hotels and resorts means that water from the hills that normally would have run off to the sea now floods the road due to the blocking of natural channels.

Long suffering residents want the authorities to solve the problem once and for all.

A video from Thai PBS showed the flooding and also reported that Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand's north east was similarly hit by heavy monsoon rains.
