Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said today that he is not satisfied with the way the Red Bull heir’s hit-and-run case has been handled by the police and public prosecutors and promised to take action, once he receives the report from the independent fact-finding panel headed by Vicha Mahakhun.

He made the remarks after delivering a speech at an event commemorating the 74th anniversary of the founding of Bangkok Post newspaper, at the Centara Grand at Central Plaza Lat Phrao Hotel on Thursday morning.

The Prime Minister said that public interest in the Red Bull scion’s case shows the importance of the media in Thai society.

I somehow suspect he is mostly dissatisfied with how the word got into the public domain, causing such a level of embarrassment.

Seems to be lack of separation between state and judiciary?

Perhaps a dignified silence until he has the report to speak to?

Wait 'til he hears about the leaked video of people removing CCTV from the gambling den where that copper was shot.

6 years ago he promised to reform the police, and today the police and courts, etc, are just as bad as they've always been.

Yea but gambling dens with police protection or even running the show?

He had the power to reform the police in the first 5 years in power but didn't why?

Total bs, if he had his way, there would be no media other than his propaganda spokespeople

I think once you have lived in Thailand long enough, the word 'independent' sort of loses its meaning, and you read it, roll your eyes and mutter 'uh huh'.

A little bit more window dressing to try to quiet down the peasants, then back to life as usual

Similar, but not so obvious issues . without military control in government, in Australia up until the late 1970s and 80s

Don't think there's much he can do at the moment poor soul

he really needs the police to help with his student protest problems.
And if Red Bull guy isn't cleared they'll loose a lot a dosh.

He does have his way.....

Didn't Prayut put himself in effective charge of the police some years ago?  If so, he should be taking the blame personally for any subsequent mishandling of such a high profile case.

I somehow suspect he is purely doing it to try for some popularity and divert attention away from how poorly the Army is ruining, sorry running, the country????????????????????????????????

Time to take this out of the police hands, out of the justice systems hands and have an entirely independent inquiry into the whole debacle.

If one can be found that is above bribes & influence?

Just ridiculous that a 'Hit Run ' incident has been mishandled for some 8 years, WHY???? Irresprective victim was a Police Officer, quite clear who was responsible yet B/c from wealthy Family, allowed to leave the country & 'Swan around' wherever!! Justice system in Thailand is a Farce! PM Prayut needs to act IMMEDIATELY!!

Cuz he needs them around to take care of that day to day strong-arm intimidation stuff.

He should be happy with it because he must have given the green light to drop the charges. Prawit’s brothers were involved in getting that done. It is impossible that Prayut didn’t know. He is just unhappy that the public found out and reacted badly to the news. Now engaged in damage limitation without attempting to change the out outcome.
