Pattaya: Resort can be a prototype for transport development in other cities - OTP

A public forum organised in Pattaya heard that development of transport in the resort can be a prototype for other cities to follow.

It's place in Chonburi and connection to the EEC or Eastern Economic Corridor makes Pattaya an ideal candidate for development.

Many plans are afoot to improve the transport infrastructure in Pattaya that will then be connected to Bangkok via the High Speed Three Airport Rail Link that is being developed.

The OTP or Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning held the forum at the Grand Palazzo Hotel, reported Manager.

Interested parties discussed the resort's place in various schemes with the OTP.

Other major transport projects are underway in Ayutthaya and Khon Kaen with a keen eye on how Pattaya handles its own needs.

Other forums in those cities are planned to discuss their specific needs.

As long as they don't follow the Pattaya storm-water drainage system, or the ongoing-for-years-now-plan to bury cables underground.

Apart from that it's a world-breaking idea, never seen before.

Opposite to the Chunky Monkey in Soi Buakhao is the Beer Hub. So there is a hub already. ????

It's 2020 and still no proper metered taxis in this so called World Class Tourists Destination.

They wouldn't need to improve the transport infrastructure so much, if they just got the basics right.

I've worked it out. It's not really a roundabout, but a copy of the Large Hadron Collider - the world's largest and most powerful particle accelerator.

We know how fast the drivers are in Pattaya. There will definitely be some sort of a 'collider', sooner rather than later.

Reminds me of the death bowl in Flat out console game .. last man standing wins and woe betide any pedestrians casually wandering about who get in the way ..

'woe betide any pedestrians casually wandering about who get in the way'

Sounds like an ideal game for Vorayuth Yoovidhya,

Before anything can improve they first have to take on the baht bus mafia, and the motosai taxi mafia, not to mention the mafia in tight brown uniforms. And, of course, the powers that be get their sweeteners from aforesaid mafioso types, so let's be honest and accept that nothing much is likely to change.

Been drinking to much sea water they have gone barking mad trying to flog this as an idea ????

Totally agree.  Pattaya exists in a Bermuda triangle which prevents meters from working along with the police; drainage system and the disappearing sand renewed three times a year.

I think baht buses up and down the strip in Pattaya are brilliant for a weekend tourist. Just hop on and off at will. Price more or less fixed.

Not good if you wish to take the family out of the centre to some tired attraction.

And in direct comment of the headline - It could be but it won't!!!!!

As long as public transport, which is an essential service, is being withheld by the corrupt from tourists, locals, and expats, Pattaya can not progress.

where are they going to put the ZEBRA CROSSINGS for pedestrians??

According to the picture they intend to knock down Pattaya and start again. Easy peasy. Should have planned from the beginning.

And U-Tapao will become an international flight center with the knock on effect of making Pattaya itself an international hub even more so than before.

Yes its a good system for the town center.

Now though even "007"  is laid up :shock1:   due to lack of customers.

How can the "Dig-up-the-road", hub also be a transportation hub?

Will they also translate the English taximeter manual to Thai so they can start using their meters.
