Government Turns to Thai Tour Groups

BANGKOK, Aug 21 (TNA) — The Tourism and Sports Ministry will encourage Thai people to travel in groups in the country instead of expecting foreign tourists late this year.

In a discussion on Thai-Chinese economic outlook organized by the Thai-Chinese Journalists Association, Anant Wongbenjarat, director-general of the ministry’s Tourism Department, said the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic heavily hit tourism as the number of Chinese visitors dropped from over 10 million annually to 1.2 million this year. The arrivals in 2020 had happened before the COVID-19 outbreak.

in other words they are clueless; why would thais that normally travel with their immediate families then travel in groups with all kinds of strangers ?

Ministry will encourage Thai people to travel in groups in the country instead of expecting foreign tourists!

This will not last long...recipe for covid spread.

Oh, that's right...only farangs and Thais returning from farang lands...????

So, they like that the Thai people fill the gap which Chinese tour groups full of glueless Chinese people left behind them. In Thailand, in their own country!!! Wow!

I cannot imagine that Thais in a reasonable number will follow this idiocy. How stupid, dependent and how ignorant do they think Thais behave? Unbelievable! These guys really lost any contact with reality and their fellow countrymen.

'...On the same occasion, Chinese charge d’affaires Yang Xin said the COVID-19 pandemic would continue until the invention of a vaccine and China would successfully develop one for the protection of the world population in the near future...'

'He said that despite COVID-19, the Chinese economy would grow by 5.6% this year and Thai-Chinese trade would be expanding as well....'

'Both countries had good ties and China planned to invest about 71 billion baht in Thailand, Mr Yang said.'

This ???????? from the original article says it all:

Only Chinese and and Thai-Chinese interests play a role anymore in Thaland. Only Chinese and Thai-Chinese decide what will happen in Thailand. Only the economic benefit for China and Thai-Chinese plays a role for them. Thailand now is already a vassal state of China, sold to China by a Thai-Chinese Mafia.

Decision made already, I think. They will keep the borders closed for us for the rest of the year, at least. What an inhuman pack they are!

Thais spend a lot of money when they travel abroad. Now that they aren't traveling, likely far more than when foreigners visit Thailand (which makes sense, of course - you're bound to spend more money in an expensive country that you are in a cheaper one). Maybe they'll spend some of that locally as they can't travel abroad. If they do, they could at least keep some of the tourism industry afloat.

But looking at it from different perspective - the rip off places that Thais would never go to as they know they were daylight robbery, would now either need to lower their prices to compete or go out of business.

In the long term, this is probably good for the tourism sector here. Like (no offense to dead and wounded) tsunami did a clean up on some of the islands like Phi Phi, and turned them into much nicer place than they were before the big splash. Everything needs a reset from time to time.

And don't forget khup.............BRING YOUR MONEY!

The Thai tour groups I have seen have been company paid trips in a bus. Otherwise Thais seem to be able to travel independently. They are not Chinese.

Maybe they should be called Chai-Thainese. That seems to be the order of the priorities.

Duh!

They don't have money to travel or they don't have jobs.  They are having  the problem with all money at the top of the pyramid shown to them in great detail.  Thailand needs an educated middle class if it is to compete with its neighbors.  Vietnam is bustling.
