A bus service that runs in a 61-kilometre loop from the heart of Bangkok southeast to Samut Prakan has become the latest victim of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The R26E bus, running from Ramathibodi Hospital to Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute in Bang Phli will stop running on September 15. Its operator, Marat Transport, has reported accumulated losses due to the economic slowdown and a lack of government aid.

Launched in 2018, the R26E was among the first alternatives to public buses run by the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority.

The operator is also terminating employment for all staff who work on the service, paying them compensation according to the Labour law.

Marat Transport said the R26E bus will operate as normal until September 15, the last day of service.

The Mass Authority is now super happy. They will lose all kind of competition and be the state backed ones that come shining out of the pandemic.

Only reading that line, might make one think that the bus died after a Covid-19 infection.

No doubt that would have been tallied as a "Covid death" in the US or UK.
