The opposition Pheu Thai party has rejected the Kao Klai party’s proposal to amend Section 272 of the Constitution, on the grounds that it is not the right time for such a move.

Pheu Thai decided today, by an overwhelming majority, not join fellow opposition party Kao Klai in its attempt to limit the Senate’s role in the selection of the country’s Prime Minister.

Pheu Thai spokesman Anusorn Iamsa-ard said today that almost all of its MPs oppose Kao Klai’s approach to Section 272, adding that only one of the party’s MPs, Cholnan Srikaew of Nan province, agrees with the amendment.

"Clip the wings of the Senate" - Kao Klai (KK)

How would that be done as any amendment to the Constitution requires the partial support of the Senate?

Section 272 appears to have a 'sunset clause' in any event. It essentially only applies until after the period of 5 years from the date of the installation of the first joint national assembly (House & Senate). Nothing is said what takes place afterwards.

PTP goes more to the heart of the matter with Section 256 wherein the Senate can vote on the election of the PM. But there is still the issue of Senate approval for any amendments to the Constutution. But KK going after 272 becomes a 'side show' in terms of political priorities. Maybe it just wants some political credit that PTP would otherwise dominant.

As an aside I see no reason why KK can't pursue a dual track to support amending both 256 and 272. But it should give priority to 256.

PTP probably waiting for instructions from the boss. He might want the Senate clipped but only in a way that benefits himself and his cronies.

And some posters still like to pretend this is about democracy!

And some posters always post the old Thaksin is in control of the PTP without the slightest trace of evidence.
